I'd give baby oil with e a try next time. It's what we used to use on horses who we would get in who's tails had been braided and left up for a LONG time, and had ungodly knots, often with burrs. It really helped to loosen the knots.

Bailey has done this once.or.twice too. Always when im brushing under her tail or cleaning under tail. I did what everyon said. I screamed aw! And put my hand around her snout and said no bite.

Yeah she seems to be a little sensitive around her hiney area the most! I get the most response when I brush there!!

The fact that you are even checking is proof you did fine. A calous person would have done that and much worse and not even given it a second thought.. *comfort* we have to teach them appropriate behaviors and being stern is a requirement at times. When I have to be firm with Deja it breaks my heart too.

I felt guilty about the rest of the day!! I don't think she has been kissed and fussed over so much like yesterday, lol..

I have the same problem with Baxter. He loves to be brushed but gets a little snippy with his tail and butt area. He's a rescue so I don't have any idea what's going on there but I'm very gentle when brushing there and give him a firm "no bite" if he looks back at me. It seems to be working. He's getting much better.

thank you for sharing! It sounds like Megan was just puppy snipping and being feisty...Che likes the hat I am wearing so he tends to lunge at it if I bend to tie my shoes, one day he lunged and accidentally hurt me in the face, no skin damage just pain- I made a really big production and Che was subdued for quite a while after that...
I have implemented following grooming program with Che- he gets to be brushed on the table every day and "pretend" nail clippping or hair cutting on the paws, for few minuts at least. Also he gets his teeth brushed and light morning massage of every canine part of his body. I simply want him to be acustomed to my grooming, my hands and nesessity of it.... question arises- do I really want my pup have all that so glorious full coat? LOL

Maybe try using baby powder to loosen the knot. Adding water, even with a little conditioner only makes the knot tighter. That is why you always want to completely brush and comb your dog to the skin before bathing. Otherwise, the knots are impossible to get out.

, geeze, I used watered down conditioner and baby oil trying to soften the two knowts behind her ears. I brushed VERY gently with both a slicker and a regular type of brush, but to no avail. As I write this, my 16 y/o daughter is working on the knots with a her fingers and a brush.

So baby powder loosens the knots???

Okay so now we're trying baby powder like you suggested, lets hope it works

I use johnson and johnson's no more tangles spray. It works on Bailey.

Something else that helps is instead of brushing, try pulling the knots apart with your fingers. It actually separates the mats and makes it easier to eventually brush out.
