Merle to Merle Breeding is Ok as Long as You're Ok With the Outcome??

Oh damn, I'm surprised they can actually be registered. The least AKC can do is not recognize them. That's very disappointing to know.

The AKC only does what the parent club tells them. The parent club made the decision to heavily penalize "white" dogs, but they don't restrict the registration. And honestly, people lie. I wouldn't be surprised to see a double registered as a "blue merle, white and tan".

Good point, and if the breed club did restrict the registration, you can bet there would be more lying. At least if the dog is correctly registered as a double dilute, breeders will have the information they need to make safer breeding choices.

Although if you're breeding to the dog sight-unseen, or if you see it and you can't tell it's a double merle, you probably deserve whatever you get.

Perhaps, but there are also probably plenty of brown-eyed sable merles incorrectly registered sables lurking in pedigrees, too.
