Miko is now.....

Congratulations to Miko and you !

I took my old girl through a Rally Class, but quickly realized that she didn't have her heart in it. However, we got a nice finish and front out of the training. These were things that I had never trained her in previously. And most importantly, she can do some nice heeling work as an exercise with Mom now for yummy treats.

I know Open Rally is much more difficult that Novice Rally but, honestly, if you can afford it, I'd keep working on it with Miko. Its good for him to move and think and be active. Even if you never compete in an Open Rally trial it will still be good for Miko's health because he'll be engaged in something.

That's what I was thinking too. And it's time with Miko to bond and work with him. I feel bad that I don't do anything with him like I do Koji. That's why we did Rally. It's something he can do that isn't as strict as obedience. I'd love to get a CD on him, but that one command rule would never work.

I wonder if Koji, when he's older, would be able to do it. Will he be more calm? heck, he can't even walk straight now. Seriously. When he walks in front of me, he goes back and forth, like he's drunk. And then tries to trip me. lol.

As for affording it, not sure. I guess if I did one show here and there, no biggie. His RN wasn't too expensive as he got 3 out of 3. Agility seems to suck all the money out of my pocket. Oh, also, Rally is sooooooooo much easier to train indoors. LOL.

However, Advanced IS off leash. Yikes!

Just wanted to add that it's so nice to achieve something like this with an older dog. I've found some people 'write off' their dogs when they get to 8 or 9, which is such a pity as many still have so much to offer. So extra well done to you:biggrin2:

Aw, thank you. And I know what you mean. Everyone keeps saying how mean I am to make such an older dog do Rally (more in a teasing way), but honestly, Miko seemed to like it. Maybe not the ring so much, cuz he's not getting treats, but when I train. He seems so happy. :)

Congrats- we knew you could do it. I was going to enter Callie in a trial in Jan in Novice B since we never finished an advanced leg but I have waited too long to enter so we'll maybe just go watch our friends compete :wink2:

Thanks. Don't you hate it when you wait too long? LOL. I have all the dates on my calendar JUST IN CASE. hehehe.

Now, the question is.....can he do the rest of the signs?
Does anyone know if Advanced uses all the rest of the signs or just part of them? I'm not sure he can do the pivot type things, or do them off-lead. Hmm....
