Miko's Health (updates and more)

Yay, Miko ate heartily. Granted, he barely had half of his food, but he ate well. I'll see if he's up for food in the early afternoon. That's a good sign. He's also more active again and it seems he's regaining strength in his hind legs again. He's able to get up himself once again.

I should give him his pain meds, but I admit, it scares me what happened. I'm supposed to give a third of what was originally prescribed, but still very worried about the side effects.

You might want to ask the vet to do subcutaneous fluids.

Thanks. I'll talk to him about this. I'm supposed to call in later this morning, just to check in. Although he has been drinking water, which is good. And the poop/mucous the had when I wrote, that was the end of that. Waiting to see what he poops out this morning.

We have poop. The things we get excited about :rolleyes2:
It was slightly soft, but overall firm and held its form well. Yay. That gives mew hope.

I gave him a tiny dose of his pain meds, he seems better than before. Not zonked out. Moving around. Now, is he in pain or less pain? No clue.

I've decided I am done with the buprenorphine. Miko has been resting, but he wanted to get up. His hind legs don't work again, no strength. I don't understand why it's causing that, but that's gotta be worse than walking in pain. He's a bit more off balance, which can be expected, but the weak leg thing is just too much. It means I can't leave him alone, because he can't get up, at all. I guess I'd better cancel my hair appt. I really needed it cut. Hopefully he'll bounce back fast from this because I need to leave the house in the next day or two. Time to let the vet know what is going on.

I went and got my haircut, miko was sleeping pretty deeply. I came back and he was well, still sleeping. He ate the rest of his breakfast, so only about 1/4 total for the day. I'm just happy to see him eating heartily again. And he's walking around better again. He's also not sleeping on his side, so that shows me he's not zonked out.

Yup, no more buprenorphine anymore. Pain or not, I can't imagine what he was dealing with was any better. I'm going to email the vet and see what he thinks and where we can go from there.

I'm just glad he's getting back to normal.

Thanks for all the support everyone. I have really needed it.

Good to hear things are going much better now and you managed to get out too, I'm sure it did you good.

Definitly sounds better without the pain meds - again this was a choice my Auntie made for Merlin as he really couldn't take them either.

Hope things continue in this good direction over the weekend. :smile2:

Seriously love these vets. Just spent 30 mins talking to the vet. We decided to see how literally, one drop, would affect him. We both agreed if he can't walk and is zonked out, what good is that?

I decided to contact the animal communicator again. Honestly, she did such a wonderful job last time, I believe. I think she'll give me more insight since I can be more specific about his pain, what he wants, what he hates, etc. Yes, I'm grasping at straws while I try to figure out if it truly is time, or maybe not quite yet.

Everyone here says, "you'll know". Unfortunately, I don't know. Besides the diarrhea episode, he's been stable for the past 6 months. I just looked up on my YouTube account, when Miko last "played" with Koji, and that was in March. I would say he seemed more alert back then, so he's definitely declined in that area. But the reasons could be anything. Dementia, can't see/hear more, etc. I would say he's playing with Koji less, but then again, even Koji isn't playing as much either.

I would say I'll be thinking more about this over the next week or so, as I see how his body does with recovering from the diarrhea, the meds, etc.

Anything new with Miko today?

Nothing bad, yay. He is still off-balance a bit than normal, but he gets around when he wants. Lately, I have been putting him in my chest, mostly for me to be close to him, however he seems to like it. We slept for 3 hours and he didn't want to get up. And when he did, he peed and pooped. Glad he sorta let's me know. he's back on the ground, wandering and not being g comfy, so lying on me must be something soothing for him.

I gave him one drop, literally, of the painkiller. No clue if it helps. He doesn't walk any better or seem less restless. Hard to tell if he's in less pain or not. One drop still made him a tad weak, but at least he could still get up and walk.

At this point, I'm waiting until Tues to see what the animal communicator says. Oh, and he's eating with more exuberance, but still only eating half his food. Not good. I think he gets tired. I've tried to feed him more often, but he's not too interested. :(

That's today's update. Thanks for asking!
