Miko's Health (updates and more)

I say give him whatever he will eat! If steak and eggs, then go for it.

For his achy joints, consider putting his bed on top of one of your air vents. the heat will go directly to the bed and to his bones. Yes....you will block one of your vents, but you can bundle up with extra blankets at night if necessary. Just a thought.

And hugs to you both.....I'm so sorry!

Thanks Barb. And yeah, I don't have vents, just baseboard heaters. I turned up the heat, it allowed him to get more rest in the evening, that seemed to help. I'm awaiting a gate to block my baseboard heater in my bedroom, so I can turn that on.

As for the steak and eggs, the only reason I'm wary is because I don't want to cause his kidney's to shut down and make his life even worse. Not sure kidney failure is a way I'd want to go out. But don't worry, he will get spoiled. :)

Well, the electric blanket didn't work. The ground must be freezing or something. I had it turned up to 3, it didn't feel warm, but definitely not cold. In the middle of the night, I heard him moving around, omg, it was cold!!!! So, I brought him up on the bed with me and tucked him in under the flannel sheets. That didn't do much. Maybe I should have tucked him in under the down comforter. Anyhow, he got to sleep on my chest again and we both got some rest.

Hopefully the fleece down throw will help him on the ground. I don't mind sleeping with him, but it's uncomfortable for me because I tend to roll around. With him on me, obviously, I don't. But, on the flip side, because I know he's warm and safe, I sleep better too. Hmm....

So, I think I've been ignoring Koji long enough. When I moved Miko on the bed next to me, Koji came and stepped on Miko, wanting to lie on him so he could be next to me :rolleyes2: Oh yeah, time to cuddle with Koji. I'm sure he's feeling left out. Especially since he's starting to get naughty.

Otherwise, things seem to be okay with Miko. Day by day, he seems to be getting a little better. His walking, not so much. He's pretty much off-balance all the time now. He's eating a bit better, little by little, but is still barely eating half his food. Maybe steak and eggs are better. ;)

Same here. I very rarely see floor vents in Texas, why, I don't know.

if Texas is like Florida and Alabama, most houses don't have basements - the only houses that I have seen with floor vents also have basements.
most houses in the south have central heat/air which is usually distributed through ceiling vents.

Eggs are usually ok on a K/D I think and maybe a bite of steak might stimulate his appetite a little; maybe you could enjoy them together and be sure to include Koji !!

Here's a photo of my new setup. Miko tucked in, on my bed, but not on me. When I get the fleece/down throw, he'll get tucked into that. The blanket he's got now doesn't keep him warm, so he's wearing his Back on Track coat. On the upside, I get more comfy sleep and he wakes me up if he needs to. And Koji lies between my legs or on the other side of me. I hope we're all happy. It's nice getting bigger chunks of time. LOL.

Oh, being up on my bed, on the comforter, I would assume is softer and warmer than the ground. Maybe not as warm and squishy as on me though. Hehe. This is where he should be for his last days. Next to me and Koji. :)

I just want to say that you are such an awesome Mom. I admire your dedication to Miko's every comfort. He is a very lucky pup.

Thanks. He's not eating much, so I'm going to add some eggs to his regular food. Too much protein isn't a good thing, so maybe I'll take out some of the chicken. I don't want to add too much weird stuff, I know his stomach is sensitive and then with the whole diarrhea episode, I don't want a repeat of that.

Oh wow. Got the throw today. I'm surprised at how thin it is, but it says it's 650 fill (down). Hopefully this will keep Miko warm without him having to wear his coat too. I'm going to put him on my bed.

Here's Miko and his throw.
Obviously, he's not using it quite yet. LOL. Oh well. I can never get him to lie/fall down on it. Everywhere, but on the blanket. However, I am keeping the room pretty warm, so his paws are a good warm temp.

Thanks for this. I always feel like I'm not doing enough. This helps me feel like I am doing everything I can.

The nice thing about down is that it doesn't have to be thick to be warm. If you can get him wrapped up in it he should be nice and toasty.

So true. Now if he'd only lie on it. LOL. His face is on it. ;) Actually, it doesn't matter, I'm going to use it more for the evening and he's definitely getting wrapped up in it. I was going to put it over my legs as I'm on the computer, to see how warm it gets. Maybe when he moves.
