i am in contact with a dog friendly reporter for our local paper. she has written up about Monty three times already. i contacted the city, mayor offices also. but they said they spread the word but not much else they can do as they have no leads either. the NorCal Sheltie rescue does not have a trap. the animal shelter/animal control said they cannot put out a trap for me either coz they cannot put it out either unless it is on my property. sigh! i think if we have constant sightings, people would be more inclined to help out because they will feel the chances are good to get him. so far the 2 people who have said they saw him i only chanced upon coz i approached them during my search. they've seen the posters but they did not call. they saw him but did not call animal control. i guess the neighborhoods here are kind of passive.

we contacted an animal communicator and she said Monty is still alive and still on the loose. i left his blanket with some food in a bowl in a park where i hope he is or at least passes through but someone took it after 2 days. how can i attract him now to go to a place so i can at least spot him if people keep taking the stuff i leave and cats or raccoons keep eating the food?

An acquaintance lost her sheltie in Palo Alto April of this year.
She did not recover her dog till August.
It turned out some high school kid kept the dog for all that time in a neighboring town.
Toward the end of the ordeal, the owner bought a full page ad in the local town paper and fortunately some woman saw it and reported to the owner that some kid was keeping a similar-looking dog in her neighborhood.
So, don't lose hope - I hope you find your sheltie very soon.

i was just reading about Shelties being lost for months at a time and going into a feral state. scares the heck out of me. i hope Monty will approach people for help. it has already been a month.

so frustrating that the city will not allow me to put a trap in the parks. what if he is there and fending for himself? and they threw away his blanket and bowl coz they said that is not allowed either. plus we have no sightings so we have no idea where he is now. i was hoping to put a trap in the park and if i did not catch anything after few days to try another park.
i was thinking if we had a sighting i would try to knock on doors of houses in the area to plead with residents if i can use their backyard to put a trap in. just need a sighting. sigh!

got a call from a lady she said she saw Monty cross the freeway a month ago. she said she saw him on the overpass heading west over the freeway. she did not remember exact date but if it was the first week of September that would be a week after he was lost. if only he turned left instead of crossing. if he had done that and followed the sidewalk, he would have wound up at the place where he got lost. if he had turned left a block earlier than that and followed the sidewalk, he would have ended up near where we live. so close! but since he crossed the freeway and it's been a month, i don't even know what to think. the other side of the freeway, there are no parks, restaurants or houses. there is like empty farmland and things like power generators and wilderness. there is a bike path and we posted flyers there too but no responses to those flyers. i could kick myself! we have been searching the area near our place for so long and did not even spot him and there he was walking on the main road.
I know it's not news you want to hear but it is news. Now the plan has to be made to blanket that area as best you can. Maybe contact the utility company that has powerlines in that area. You never know if one of their workers are out & sees Monty. Check with the county & make sure they have a flyer & info in case any of their workers see him. Contact the K9AmberAlert group on Yahoo groups & get his new sighting area posted. They send it out all over. Then there is the website www.helpinglostpets.com/. I have posted lost dogs on there before & it's free.
Even though a month has passed it still can have a happy ending. Our UPS lady saw a dog that she thought matched a missing dog in our area. She contacted the owner & they found their dog 4 months after she was gone & 3 miles from home.
