Missing from Nova Scotia, Bandit

I was at work when I read Aspen's story, nearly cried my eyes out right there! Just absolutely amazing. Shelties look like such delicate little pups, but really they are so hardy and strong! Aspen, Walker, Ladybelle and others are what has given me real hope, I know if they can survive and be found, so can my Bandit. Last sighting was last week near the Irving in Falmouth, so my friend & daughter & I went to a nearby field yesterday to look around. We are all totally cut up from the thorns, and my friend and I each went for a very cold "swim", but we found an icy patch with a light dusting of snow on it with very clear dog prints! Looks like there was only one dog, and looks like it was chasing something, there were lots of mice there, and the prints were the right size and shape! (someone on here sent me a sheltie print picture in the snow, so I could compare, thank you!!) Set the humane trap, so far nothing has gone in, but we are checking periodically.
As for the poodles, they are standards, and white, we didn't have any snow at the time so they wouldn't have blended in. Haven't been talking to the owners yet, but I heard they were found clean, and not hungry. Very strange, but at least they are both home, safe and well.
 
Please be careful with setting the live trap at this time of the year! It is so cold, so you don't want to catch something and have it freeze in the cage. Such a tough situation. I will keep praying for Bandit's safe return! Keep the faith.
 
Hi Linda. I read that lost dogs come out of hiding at break of dawn and right at dusk. What is the Irving? So Bandit ran off from your parents home. I was wondering how far your home is from them? Is Bandit in survival mode or trying to get home? Another successful finding in England of lost sheltie said to put lost signs ahead of his movement. Unless he is hunkered down. They also pounded a four foot pole in the ground and tied human scent clothes to it. Scent can travel further then. Another strange tidbit I read. Lost dogs run into the wind. Are you covering the trap so there is protection from the elements? I keep praying you find Bandit. Sorry you got cut up in the brush.
 
Danielle, that was one thing we were concerned about, whether it was Bandit or a raccoon or something else in the trap, we don't want anything freezing, and don't want anything scared either, so we checked it very often. Not an easy area to get in to, but we agreed (my daughter and I) that if we are going to set the trap, then we are responsible for whatever gets in it. So we were there often, including in the pitch dark, with really good flashlights, and we each carried something, a stick or whatever, in case we ran into coyotes. But again this morning there was nothing in the trap at all, the food still untouched, so we took the trap out, as obviously he hasn't been there the last couple days. Need to figure out his pattern and get ahead of him, but he is so elusive.

Irving is a gas station, it is so big around here I never thought to say what it was! That's actually kind of funny! My home is about a 5 minute drive from my parents, Falmouth is about another 5 minutes away, so it's not far, but I'm certain he is in survival mode. I hadn't heard that they run into the wind, but that is really good to know, thanks!! I am trying to collect up every little piece of information that I can get, so that could be very useful! I had put a very thick baby comforter under the trap to keep it off the cold ground, and another blanket inside. It was covered with branches and brush, but I was told if it looks like it is enclosed then he likely won't go into it, so it was protected quite well from the elements.

It is very cold here now, but not much for snow, supposed to rain tonight. I'm hoping that will make the ground muddy enough for prints, as my daughter and I are going out again tomorrow to search. We were out some today, but not much, we are both so sore and exhausted! I think what we need is a very large amount of snow, especially in the woods to force him out.
 
wow I saw your original post way from september.. I hope for christmas you get your baby home! argos darted out the door once, and I had to go running outside to catch him. I left the door open and thankfully oreo did not escape, when I came back with argos, oreo was just staring at us from the door... my best friend sasha has a doberman named rambo, and he ran away once just like your baby did... and he came home 6 months later on christmas eve... true story! and we live in Miami so it's a very populated area... best of luck!
