Missing from Nova Scotia, Bandit

No, unfortunately no news to report. There have been a few spotty sightings, nothing solid, but at least they are all coming from the same general direction. So I think I know his 'circle', but it's so big. Need to get a good, solid, fresh sighting, so that we will really know where to look and where to set the traps. I have some frozen tripe for the traps, apparently that works great. Just need that sighting. Been raining the last few days here in Nova Scotia, some places the roads were washed out, hope Toffee & family are ok! But today was fairly nice, and the next few days are supposed to be beautiful. Hoping he will come out and show himself.

Me too, Linda, me too! This boy is SO on my mind, it could have been Toffee, you know? Please tell your Mom not to beat herself up over it... accidents happen... Live traps are the way to go,

As for the weather I had a near flood in my place, but avoided with help of roomie and I hauling buckets and I used a pump...
 
Thanks, I have told her, and my father too, but they can't help feeling guilty, and I guess if I were in their shoes I'd feel the same. But they've been working so hard at this as well, they are 71 and 72, and not giving up. I hope to God it never is your Toffee, but if it ever is, I'll do whatever I can. I hate going through this, and don't want anyone else to have to go through this.
 
Being in the same boat a couple years ago, we know what you're going through Linda. Keep up the faith, you seems to have done your homework. You mentioned in another post about a five mile radius, that's about what Kasey's roaming area was. For us live traps didn't work, he was always on the move for the 21 days he was on the run. He did go feral, a number of people got close to him, I got about 10-15 yards from him once he always ran off. On the day we captured him I had help from a tracking team and almost two dozen people. We still got lucky that he ran into a fence while trying to get away. Maybe check your area and see if there are tracking teams around you, I used this one who helps find lost pets http://www.dogsfindingdogs.com/ I know some charge a small fortune, these guys were very reasonable. I also posted progress on local forums and most of my posse came from people who never met us but read my posts. In case there is info that may help, here are the two local threads I posted.

PS: I've heard from several sources that if you use live traps, KFC chicken is a great bait for Shelties. Unfortunately for us, we only caught feral cats with it.
 
Thanks Tim, actually I was thinking that I would really like to hear from people who have been through this, get their entire stories, what worked, what didn't, how long it took, how long before a sighting was reported, everything. I'd like the stories that ended well, and the ones that didn't. And I really don't want anyone to soften a bad story for me, I'd really like to know everything, I think knowledge is key. I'm also looking for good, clear pictures of sheltie paw prints. Right now we have a lot of mud in Nova Scotia, and soon the ground will be snow covered, I've been looking for tracks but wouldn't know the difference between a sheltie print and another breed, or even a coyote. I'm actually trying to find a pair of night-vision goggles as well, but they are very hard to find without having to pay an arm and a leg! I emailed DogsFindingDogs, and will let you know when I get a reply. If anyone has any pictures of sheltie paw prints, or stories, can you please email them to me at [email protected] that is also the email address attached to my facebook account if it is easier to send it through facebook.
As for news, I think we have a general area, and I do feel quite sure he is in there, but it is so wooded, with many dirt roads winding all through it, I would surely get lost. There are also gravel/sand pits, a junkyard (talked to the owner), and an area that I think is being developed for a residential area. Not an easy area to navigate. Hunting season has begun in Nova Scotia, and will continue for approximately another month, so I am actually hoping that the sounds of gunshots will scare him out of the woods and hopefully into backyards. It has been almost 9 weeks, the longest 9 weeks of my life. I just cannot wait to get this nightmare overwith, and have my boy home safe and sound.
 
I was looking at a website called something like Nova Scotia Lost Dog network and was wondering if Bandit is on this website. Maybe I just didn't go back far enough. Do you have like a forestry service where they fly airplanes or helicopters In the area. If so maybe they could keep a lookout for him. I just read a story about a big Border Collie that is blind found wandering in the woods with a bear. Hikers took a picture thinking it was a cub with it's mom, got the film developed and realized it was a dog. The blind lost dog was found thanks to hanging with the bear. I think this happened in Nova Scotia. Somebody was really looking out for the pooch. Glad the bear didn't attack him:eek2: will say more prayers for Bandit.
 
If you talk to a wildlife expert, they would be able to tell you how to distinguish a dog's footprint from another animal's. I study my dogs' prints just so I know what they look like.
 
I hope he is found safe soon. I check every day for an update to this thread. You and Bandit are in my thoughts, Linda.
