Does anyone know what mottled black skin on your sheltie's belly and under-arms means? It is not a rash, not raised up just lies flush on her skin with black pigment. She has recurring yeast infections, has gotten shots for same. She has another yeast infection right now, I wonder if this is an immune disorder?

In doing previous research for my dog Gypsy I came across some info. this could be a symptom of hypothyroidism or cushings disease.

I had the vet put her on thyroid meds, low dosage a month and a half ago cause though her levels were normal for dogs, she is a sheltie and needs more than borderline. She goes to the vet tomorrow and with your information I will deliver the news to the vet.

Harper Lee skin disorder

I had her tested today for cushings disease. I had her thyroid levels rechecked as well. Good news, the black "rash" is fading. She is on antihistamines as well.

Harper Lee now has better thyroid levels, her rash contines to fade, she was negative for cushings, liver is good and blood work a ok.
