Mult Veterinary Practices

It can get weird when you have different veterinarians with different viewpoints in one practice. One crazy example - about 30 years ago when we were moving from annual vaccinations to extended protocols a young lady veterinarian in a practice about a mile from me was working for an older dr. with very established ways. She was in the process of buying the practice so they had to work together. He stuck to annual feline distemper vaccines, she went to the three year protocol. Which you got depended on which room you went into. :cautious:

That's what happened with Dewey when he was diagnosed with his seizure problem, each Doctor wanted to control it with a different medication..The 1 medicine was very expensive an the other was not. I went with the one that gave him the best results and he had a more comfortable life the last couple of years. I still miss him but I also believe that he knows that Teddy is here and he wasn't replaced.
All of my pups have there own place in my heart

I am so sorry about the lack of cohesiveness with your vets. It makes it interesting - well he said... well, she said... Ugh! Good move on your part to stand in the middle ground and follow your gut!

I am quite lucky. The two women who run the vet hospital I am currently using are both extremely like minded. In fact, they worked together at another long standing hospital and both left a few years back. They started up an at home, mobile unit, eventually buying a building and opening up shop there instead of renting out a local hospital for surgeries. Interesting fact, a few employees of that previous vet hospital tagged along when they got their chance so it really is like old home week when dealing with these women - I've known them for over 20 years. For a bit in-between, I had a strictly mobile vet who came to our house during those years I was dealing with a crowd of senior cats and dogs. I loved her, respected her, but when Brodie came along, I wanted somewhere that could deal with different medical care - neutering and such. I have the best of both worlds now - I can get home or at business care.

We have a single practitioner vet and use a emergency vet as a back up. The one challenge is she is only one person. I trust her judgement and she's never steered us wrong but when she's not available the emergency vet is quite pricey. It would be nice to have have another vet that provided coverage on occasion. That being said if it meant we couldn't see her I'd be hesitant to try it. I'm just fussy about medical care, my own or the dogs. I like people I trust and will listen.

I do think there is a market for mobile clinics. There are lots of people with transportation challenges who need vet care. Having a vet who makes house calls eliminates the need to get the animal to the vet. I would suspect in some cases they could do neighborhood days and get quite the bookings in areas like mine which are full of animals and could get the routine dog/cat care done while they were in the neighborhood so to speak.

Our vet just started a mobile service for people that can not get their pets to the vet. It even has a small operating room where they can do minor procedures and spay/neutering. It is also done at a cheaper cost because it is aimed towards people that also have financial issues. It is called the Mooch mobile.

What a great service! Our vets will come to the house when it is time to let a little one go...but not for anything else. Kudos to your vet for starting this Mooch Mobile!! (y)

With the Mooch Mobile all the vets in the practice volunteer their time to staff it which is how they keep the costs down.

Our vet also has a Mooch Fund. They accept donations and use this money to help people who can not afford to get their pets the treatment they need.

We are mostly a rural community with a lot of farmland.

This is AWESOME and so concretely helpful! I say kudos to your vets. (y)
