Music to soothe

Callie, on the other hand, HATES it when I play the piano. Since I play the organ for our worship service and the piano for our church choir, this is a problem. As soon as I start playing, she starts whining and howling. I'm trying to decide if she's trying to sing with me -- but I don't think so. She really acts like it's the most painful thing she's ever had to do.

It's starting to give me a complex -- and not helping me practice at all.

The funniest thing we ever had with music was with my sister's lab. She was okay with the piano at home but we lived just about 1/2 block from a church with a carillon. The carillon was always played after a wedding. One day, as it played, Hilda started to howl.

I read somewhere about using classical music to calm them. I use it all the time with nervous shelties even in normal heavy rain if they act stressed. I think the different sounds tend to mask the abnormal boom of thunder or heavy rain. I also have had good luck using melatonin along with the classical music in extreme cases. If I can't find classical I put on talk radio ( NPR) & they seem to chill with the mellow voices on there.
