My experience with shelties isn't helping, need experience with spouses

You don't need to apologize....I gave up Ginnie (a 3 year old Sheltie that I tried to adopt in after Xmas) because she was just not going to fit in. I only gave it 1 week! You gave it 1.5 years!

If you have a happy home for Spike to go to, then let it rest at that.

Its always a tough call to reorganize the family member list...whether its sponsoring an exchange student, having a baby, losing a parent....or if the change is in adding or subtracting a family pet.

You aren't sending Spike to a shelter or passing him along to an unsuspecting family. The lady adopting Spike KNOWS him and is willing to take the good with the bad. Your hubby's feelings and your new pup's ability to bond with the family have to be considered as well. I think you are doing the tough, but correct thing for your hubby, Buddy, Spike and YOU!!

Now go eat some ice cream and stop feeling guilty!
