My kitty passed

So sorry to hear about your kitty. :(

When my cat Natasha passed she was 17 and Milo was 3. They were very close and played together often. As her health failed they played less but were always together.

He looked for her for about a week. In the beginning it was much more frequent but gradually decreased. He did seem a little sad but adapted much more easily than we anticipated.

I'm sure that within a week or two your pup will adjust and be fine.

wisper

was very attached to her puppy, Gavin. She would even groom him.
I think he's a little sad, but mostly I think he knows I'm sad.
gotta love our furbabies..they really are the best.

Aw, I'm sorry about your kitty. <3

Pets definitely grieve. However, I think they know before humans that something is off most of the time. With my two rescue cats, when my Abysinnian was dying - Midnight knew. He stayed by her side nearly 24/7 and didn't look for her when we took her to the vet. He lost about half of his body weight after she died and it took months for him to put it back on. I honestly don't think it'd be going too far to say that she was his rock and the only constant he'd ever known.

He's not as close to the other cats as he was to Isis. But I attribute that more to his own personality/past.

Gavin will get better as the loss isn't so fresh. In the meantime, soak up the cuddles. <3 It'll make you AND him feel better.

I am so very sorry to hear about your kitty. I lost my little Dymphna in february and Ainsley definitely missed her. They were constant playmates, stalking and chasing each other all over the house. For quite a while Ainsley would keep looking in Dymph's favorite hiding places to see if she was there.

Animals do mourn. Maybe not in the same way that we do, but they definitely miss someone that they have become attached to. Gavin may be in part responding to your emotions but dogs have emotions too.

May you comfort each other in this sad time of loss.

I'm very sorry about your kitty passing. I love cats as much as I love dogs and it hurts to lose anyone you love. Give Gavin time and, even more important, give yourself time to grieve.
