my precious Jasper

Beth, you did nothing stupid. These things just sometimes happen. Forgive yourself -- though you have nothing to forgive yourself for. If you can, forgive the breeder, too. Focus your energy on your kids and Annie Rose. Love will heal so much faster than anger...

There isn't any blame here. You did everything you could. My condolences to you and your family for this loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You did everything you could, please don't blame yourself. Jasper is happy and running free with all of the other shelties at the bridge. He knows that you love him. Hugs to all of you!

I'm so sorry for your loss.

That final decision is never an easy one but please try to find solace in knowing you did everything possible for him. Always remember he's at the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for you, with many of our other furry loved ones running, playing and healthy.

And this is why I shouldn't read this at work. Makes me cry.

Hugs to you and your family (both human and canine alike). I don't look forward to the day it happens to me, but what a loss that Jasper was only 1.5 years old. Even harder when they're so young.

Although I wouldn't expect my breeder to do much, I'm glad you let them know. They should always know. To this day, I keep in touch with Miko's breeder and he's 11.5.

More hugs to you. Sheltie hugs all around. From my boys, to all of yours.

I am so sorry for your loss, I only recently fell in love with Jasper on his "play dead" video, and I can't believe you have to go though this... My deepest sympathy to you.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. You did the best thing you could for him. It is never easy to let them go. Rest assured that he will be waiting for you.

Lend Me a Pup

I will lend to you for awhile
a puppy, God said,
For you to love him while he lives
and to mourn for him when he is gone.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years,
or maybe for two or three.
But will you, till I call him back
take care of him for me ?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and (should his stay be brief)
you'll always have his memories
as solace for your grief .
I cannot promise that he will stay,
since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below
I want this pup to learn.

I've looked the whole world over
in search of teachers true
And from the folk that crowd life's land
I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love
Nor think the labour vain
Nor hate me when I come to take my pup back again.

I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord Thy WIll Be Done,"
For all the joys this pup will bring,
the risk of grief you'll run.
Will you shelter him with tenderness
Will you love him while you may
And for the happiness you'll know forever grateful stay.

But should I call him back
much sooner than you've planned
Please brave the bitter grief that comes
and try to understand.
If, by your love, you've managed
my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him that you've loved,
cherish every moment with your faithful bundle,
and know he loved you too.

There should be a disclaimer here " do not read while at work " ...

Im so terribly sorry for your loss, my baby just turned 1 and am goign to make an
x-ray appointment on my lunch break. I cant begin to imagine the pain you must
be going through, for if anything were to happen to my dear love flower I would fall
appart in every way...

May your strength never relinquish,
and your love never succomb to the darkness of deep despair
may your soul fly high in memory
of short pedestals so feathery
