my precious Jasper

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I wish your breeder would've offered you a new puppy free and clear :/ That's a shame she didn't... given that is a genetic issue, and is something most good breeders offer a guarantee on.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine what you and your family have had to go through since his diagnosis. My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.

Don't blame yourself, you did nothing wrong and were not stupid. Every puppy is different so there is no way you could have known that there was anything wrong. Its just one of those sad things that you have to put behind you, blaming yourself will do nothing but make you feel bad.

I don't blame you or your husband one bit for being upset with the breeder. I can't believe she had the nerve to ask you for $150 for a new puppy after what you and your family have had to go through. Shame on her. I don't know how some people live with themselves.

I agree, OntarioSheltie! And, this part may be my fault on how I worded it. But she was offering me a sable puppy for $150 more on the asking price that I already pay for Jasper who was a blue merle. Another word, Jasper was $300... the sable puppy would had cost me $450.

Considering all that we went thru, there was no way my husband was going to pay her $450.

I am still praying for a door to open for us to have another little blue merle or bi-blue sheltie. We dont care if it a little male or female. And, we are in no rush at the moment. We are just now getting Annie back to eating her dog food. That not to say I haven't been looking.. I have. But with everything we gone thru on medical expense, the asking price for a puppy up to a year old, is a bit pricey right now.

Incase anyone was curious, I love the unique coloring of the shelties! My reason for having a blue merle and sable merle. I grew up around appaloosas as a little girl. I do think the blues are my favorite though. /smile

It's been a week since Jasper's passing, and it has gotten easier to talk about him with other people. I have talk to several breeders and have found a few I will keep in mind later. One breeder could not believe what I went thru that she said she was going to immediately change her contract for all her puppies for up to 2yr health genetic guaranteen. (sp) If anything, Jasper is making an impact on some breeders with his story.

Thank you all for giving me the strength to get thru this! *hugs*

Oops, I actually read it like that initally, then went back and re-read it wrong. That's even worse! Like I said, I don't know how people live with themselves.

I don't know how close you are to me, but Sadie's sister, who is a bi-black, will be having a bi-black, bi-blue litter early next month. PM me if you'd like to know more :)

Thank you for the offer.. but, Im a long way away from you. Currently in Yukon, OK; just 5 to 10 mins West of Oklahoma City.

We are in the process of trying to get a transfer that would put our family near other family members in Joplin, Missouri Area. This has came about quite recently and papers have been filed. We are just waiting to see if it approve and what the salary will be like. I am hoping and praying to Jesus that this transfer will happen. At the moment, we are 4 to 5 hours away from any family.

My daughter did find a little bi-blue from Janet Belcher's shelties that she like. He reminded her alittle of Jasper and has the face we loved. But right now, I just cant afford what she would want for a companion pet. Not after all we gone thru with Jasper's medical bills. I like to say I hope he still be there later... but, I know that when the time is right... there will be another that we will find and he or she will have the face we love!

Our fates is in Jesus Christ's hand at the moment on whether the transfer goes thru or not; and, on our next little blue baby for our home. I know I can't wait to see what HE has in store for us.

but, I do thank you again for the offer! Thank You! *hugs*

I am just getting to this post and I am so so sorry. He was much to young and I feel so badly for you and for Annie. You are in my thougths and prayers.

Beth- I am so sorry for your loss! My family just put our 7 yr old Sheltie down due to colon cancer on Dec 16. I understand your frustation. We took our sheltie, Dakota, to the vet in 2008 because he was bleeding. He was misdiagnosed but the problem went away. A year and 1/2 later we found out he had colon cancer. We all blamed ourselves and felt we should have known something was wrong. Losing a pet a such a young age is heartbreaking. Dakota was still a young boy in our eyes. Don't blame yourself because their is nothing you could have done to change it. You did everything right by your sheltie. Your family is on my prayers...and I believe we will see our beloved pets again in heaven when we meet Jesus!
