Glad to hear that Ben and Max are getting along just fine. Wish that the school would get their act together but I wouldn't hold my breath. I have 3 kids, now grown, and every year I had to struggle with one the teachers while they were in school. I actually had one tell me not to concern myself that my daughter was falling behind in one aspect of math. For 3 years she had this same high school math teacher and for 3 years she had trouble with it because he wasn't capable of making it understandable to her. My nephew showed her in 15 minutes and she never looked back. When teacher made the comment " who taught you how to do this?" she answered, certainly not you. It was a trip to the office for her but she got no grief from us. I hope the situation rectifies itself but for now he has his own special friend.
