Need help socializing a 17 week old puppy

As you know Parker - Zak's half brother is staying with us for a month to socialize to other people and other dogs. He has done well on his first week here with us, but at times still runs the other way when we approach.
I had a dinner party Saturday night and had 2 other couples over, Park just hung back and hid under a dinning chair then he and Zak slept all night.
I did hand him to one friend to hold after we had dinner and he does not mind that but he doe not readily go up to greet people.
He can be very loving and almost demanding for attention, standing on his back legs jumping up and down- climbing all over us.
He had gotten two huge corrections from Maggie, up till then he would react by wanting to fight right back. He at times has barked back at me after a correction.
I have taken him to the dog bakery I go to and he was timid and scared.
He is getting better about being crated at night, with less fussing. During the day he does not make a peep.
What goes through the mind at 17 weeks, is it a fear stage? I have read where if they jump on you like that it is a dominace display. He does want to stand and put his front feet on Zak's back.
I am working with him on a leash too.

Susan, I wish I had some advice for you. Hopefully some other members of the forum can give you some advice.

wouldn't worry about the standing being a dominance thing. Cran and Dix do it all the time- sometimes to see better, sometimes to get closer, sometimes playing, sometimes begging.
if Parker has only been at the breeders until now, he has a lot of new experiences to adjust to. just keep trying to give him lots of positive interactions with people and other dogs.
