Never-ending Eye Infection

Hello! We have a a female Sheltie named Zoey. She has had an eye infection for a long time, and we've taken her to the vet 4 times and he has given 4 different kinds of meds, one including a shot. Nothing seems to be working and we're getting pretty frustrated, and we fear that permanent damage could be caused down the road if we can't clear the infection. Has anyone had similar troubles, and what did you do to cure it?
Thanks in advance!

Has she been checked out for an allergy? Tully's eyes get gunky when she has an allergy. She has allergy shots when its really bad but otherwise I give her human antihistamine (in dog dosages). My vet said recently dogs tolerate antihistamine very well so there is no problem giving it regularly.

How old is your girl? Did the vets check tear production, check for abnormal hairs on the lids? Foreign bodies? Could be alot of things.

With 4 different vets with no solution, if at all possible take her to a veterinary ophthalmologist. Eyes are nothing to play around with. :smile2:

I agree, this is the time to see the vet opthamologist. Just ask for a referral.
Something is not right, if 4 different treatments failed. It's time for an expert.
When it comes to the eyes time is of the essence.

Yuck. :dead: Sorry your dog is sick! Hope everything works out soon.

An eye vet would probably be a good idea. When Smudge's red mange would not go away I was seriously considering going to a vet dermatologist. It cleared up before it got to that point though.

Did they prescribe a steroid antibiotic eye ointment?

:( Poor baby. Sounds like you might need another opinion. Here's hoping you figure out the underlying cause soon. <33
