New Food due to Vomiting/Possible Allergy

Yeah, I am looking around.

Seriously considering the Hi-Tek grain free lamb .

Also looking at Nutrisca Grain Free Salmon, but not sure about Dogswell so much.

Fromm Salmon Tunawhatever

Trying Blue Basics Salmon like the Vet recommended

Merrick doesn't seem to have a lamb or fish recipe

Victor Grain Free Salmon

ToTW Pacifica

All seem to be about the same price, Fromm seems a tad more than the rest. Seems like I just need to put them on a dart board at this point.

Just gonna say . . . I am not a fan of feeding fish. :hide

Our oceans are massively contaminated and they recommend us humans only eat fish once every week or two and pregnant women not at all. They also recommended humans NOT use fish oil anymore as the levels of mercury and contaminants are increasing. I have done much research about this.

I figure what is not good for me or a fetus probably isn't great for my dogs either. We are sticking with land-based food sources. :hide

Don't kill me peeps! :hide

Not gonna happen with me, I'm from the bayou of Louisiana, further south than anyone on the Alligator hunting reality show. Seafood is life.

I wouldn't say anything about a woman that plans on having kids, but I think it is well overstated for the rest of us especially when you factor in the benefits that come from eating fish.

I live on the coast pointing at Japan, we are definitely facing the wrong way! Freshwater fish though is different -- possibly even sea water/brackish water in amongst lots of tree roots and foliage which act as filters -- we fish and eat from our local mountain lakes and streams. Brown brook native trout are THE best EVER. It's the open ocean that is more problematic these days.

I know . . . :hide Just remember -- just because you don't see em, it don't mean they aren't out to get you.

Nom nom nom nom nom, now you are speaking my language. I working in Hydro Power Generation in the southeast USA now. Lots of places to go fly fishing in that industry. I love me some brown and rainbow trout. My favorite though is the little native brook (speckled) trout in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Good eating.

Understand the facing Japan, use to work in the nuke industry.:dead:

Found a place local that sells Fromm, so I picked up a bag of the grain free salmon, will see how she does...

You still may want to look into probiotics/digestive enzymes. Don't change two things at once or you will never know, but animals seem to benefit from them (as do people.

This talk of nuclear power is giving me flashbacks to middle school - I grew up in the fallout zone of TMI and before 9/11, the 6th graders would take field trips to the plant.

You said you tried feeding a snack, how much time elapsed between the snack and the first meal of the day? We found the only way to keep Olive's system happy is to feed a regular meal around midnight so that there's never more than 8 hours between meals. We just needed to subtract it from her other three meals. Thankfully for that at least it was the simplest option for us (though she does have allergies and food sensitivities, they were not part of this issue)

I was also reading that there's a saliva test that can test for allergies/intolerance/sensitives like the MDR1 test but I don't know how accurate it is (or how much it costs)

allergies are the worst!
It' so heartbreaking and SO hard to pinpoint what the problem is, isn't it?
All I can share is my own personal experience, but I lost all faith in commercial food, after trying what I thought was a LOT of foods. Toffee was just about a year old when it started. To me there was nothing worse than seeing undigested kibble being thrown up almost daily 6 to 8 hours after he ate, and then a also got seasonal allergy and loosing all fur on his hind paws, developing sores finally did it for me... no more kibble of any kind as his main food...

It's worked for the most part, I got Toffee's immune system back up, he had seasonal allergy flare up last fall, after not having any for like 2 years since changing his diet, but before I was finally going to go to Vet and get steroids it actually went away as it had not got as bad as to loose all hair again... :fl

I am not as careful anymore with what I feed, he seems to have developed a really good gut flora and can handle all kinds of protein sources (including mackerel and other fish, if I can get it, lol) but ever since his main diet is raw he's a changed dog and especially the bouts and bouts of throwing up have simply and completely disappeared.

I hope you can find something that works for you, too!! :fl

I've thought about going raw, but as I am not home to take care of her all the time due to work, it may be too much to ask of my wife. I am the dog person in my house, while my wife loves Beignet, Beignet is ultimately my responsibility. Especially with a baby on the way.

I don't think Beignet's problem is severe enough to warrant it yet either. I think it can be treated without going that route. The vomitting is maybe once every 1-3 weeks right now. Fromm may solve it hopefully.

One thing is for sure, Fromm Salmon smells a lot worse than BB Chicken. The fish smell is pungent. Brushings must increase. :biggrin2:
