Lovely, the breeder taped her ears with a little string in between. I took it out 2 weeks after I got her. I felt bad looking at the tape and string. Her ears are still a little tipped. My breeder told me to use fabric glue if they start to pop up. I haven't used it yet. I'm thinking about using the fabric glue in a few days. I haven't decided yet. She looks cute with the tipped ears, but I kind of feel bad about using glue.

I strongly recommend you search through the forum on the trials, tribulations, joys and successes of gluing ears. We've many threads on this.

Ultimately, its up to you as what lengths you are prepared to go. Gluing the ear tips down does not bother them, btw, if done properly. You are just gluing fur to fur. Don't feel bad about it, but be prepared for people to ask you what is "wrong" with their ears!!! :rolleyes2:

It can be abit of work. I sure wish, though, that I could have kept going with Bacca (his problem turned out not to be tipping, but the dreaded "hound ears". I just love a tipped Sheltie ear. But that's my personal bias. Instead I've learned to love Bacca's Eeyore look.

Barb, I have read alllllll of those threads (I'm pretty sure), looking for the tipping secrets of the successful. My husband did not want me to glue Duncan's ears (he doesn't get my fascination with the look). So, we agreed to start with the bandaid method that Kelly suggested in one of them. I think I will couple it with a lotion. Since I'm starting so young, I hope it works! (And I think I'm going to track the progress and the methods, as there isn't really anything so specific on the internet - trust me, I searched!)

take4roll10, I think they look fine! Maybe I can convert people to this bandaid thing... in combination with a lotion, I think it could be very effective. The glue works and such, but I don't know if I could execute putting sticky stuff on a wiggling puppy and have it turn out the way I want.
 
You should also consider moleskin or Japanese tape, without the tying between the ears if you don't to go so far.

The advantage is that the "cosmetics" are mostly hidden inside the ear.

There's also the ol' fashioned chewing gum on the ear tip approach as well. Also mostly hidden.

If you do decide to glue, make sure you have an appropriate glue remover. I made the mistake of waiting too long to find the right stuff, and found myself in a jam. Long story.

Detachol....that's what you want. It's a bandage adhesive remover, with no odor and non-irritating.

I use Speed Sew, the fabric glue, on my 14 week-old Beckon. So far, it's held for more than a week -- whoopee!!

Instead of Goo Gone (which is toxic), try WD-40, which is fish oil. Then shampoo the area with Dawn dishwashing liquid.
 
Thanks for the advice Chris.

I'm reading the forums and some people are saying that small shelties are at greater risk for health problems? The breeder did sell her to me because she said she was too small to be a show dog. I asked her if she would be at greater risk for health issues since she is small and she said no.

Right now Bailey is 14 weeks old and between 9 & 10 inches tall (hard to measure). At 12 weeks she weighed 4.5 pounds. I would say she's about 6 or 7 pounds now. Do you think she'll be okay?
