New to Sheltie Board and Sheltie Dog

Hello!!
So excited to find this board!! A little about me. I have been alone with a kitty and a neighbor asked me to take care of her Peak for a week while on vacation. Walking the dog every day and playing was so much fun and when she got home I realized how much I missed having a dog. I had always had Lhasa Apso in past My last passed 4 years ago. Anyway I decided to rescue a dog and was looking for something small like a pug. Well my Sheltie adopted me!! I never even considered this breed ! A little about Sheldon: Apparently his owner had passed and no one knew, and he had been alone with owner deceased a few days. ( poor thing ) He is 2 years old and I think they call him a Vanilla?..( he looks like Lassie ).....he is so beautiful, but very scared and timid. I have had him for one month today. We both have suffered losses in our life and lost our masters. So we are a perfect match. I must say of all the dogs I have ever had......this Sheltie has the most angelic , sweet spirit, I have ever seen!!! Is this the nature of the Sheltie ? I have so much to learn!! I am looking forward to these discussions and making Sheltie friends !!!
 
Welcome! What a sweet story. You are very lucky to have been adopted by a sheltie. There's no breed better! Beware, though, you'll be wanting another one eventually....:wink2:

Sheldon sounds like a special guy. We've had two Shelties and looking for a Blue Merle. You'll love this very special breed.

We always have a Boxer, Terrier and a Sheltie, and all have their unique personalties, but the Sheltie is a great all around dog. Once you have one, you always will !

Welcome to the forum Nancy and Sheldon! This forum is loaded with wonderful Sheltie owners and great information. There is nothing more loving and cuddly than a Sheltie. We would love to see pictures of Sheldon.

Welcome Nancy and Sheldon, you have landed in the wonderful land known as Sheltie-hood. Sheldon may have adopted you, but what you don't yet realize is that he has already stolen your heart and you will never be the same. As someone else said, get ready, you can't have just one. Would love to see pics of your new furbaby. :smile2:

if you are referring to today's SN pic of the day- that sheltie has a lot of white on the face and the caption Vanilla sheltie reflects that.
Lassie was a sable collie and if your sheltie looks like that, then you have a sable sheltie.
 
Welcome to the wonderful family of Sheltie owners, Nancy. Shelties by nature are sweet and playful. Extremely loyal and smart and everything you'd want in a companion. But, just like people, each one has it's own unique personality.

A rescue has its special challenges as well as rewards. Just remember to be patient and try to understand that Sheldon has had some bad times in his past.
