Glad you decided to join in! You'll have much more fun being part of the group. Although there are times it's fun to just read some of the comments from the really educated Sheltie enthusiasts. That's when I sit back because they are way out of my expertise so I learn by reading their posts.:cool: Enjoy and again welcome and Sheltie hugs to your group, What are their names? I would love to see pictures of them if possible? We all like pictures. Oh and by the way Enjoy with the rest of us watching Granites' Emmas puppies grow It's awesome !!:biggrin2:
 
Thanks for the very warm welcome everybody..

I love reading about everybody else's shelties...and it is so fun to hear the different names for them all. Our's are named Samantha (she's the Queen/Senior), Baron...he's the just turned 2 year old, and Rookie who is our true baby @ 8 months.

I had to laugh when I read about the hair being pulled out of Indy's tail. Samantha has the same issue...but it was not from Baron or Rookie..lol It was from our Nic that passed to cancer (lymphoma/June '07) @ 3 1/2 years old. He left his mark on not only our hearts, but Sammie's tail too. He is the reason we added Baron, and then Rookie to give Baron somebody to have a good play with. They are best of buds too!

I understand what you were thinking with your 13 1/2 yr. old sheltie. I had a 14 yr. old Golden that did the same thing and I thought he had a stroke too! The vet fixed my boy up with some meds and he was good after that! Funny how you come to that conclussion isn't it? Did she start walking with her head tilted and stepping to the side instead of walking straight? That's what my poor boy did. Anyway, it is great that the vet got her fixed back up and ready to go!

I'm glad I decided to join in too ;-). Yes, it was very scary with our senior princess. She did the head tilt, walking into walls, and also vomiting and eyes twitching terribly, and could not stand up literally...to save her life. We had never experienced anything like it with any of our previous shelties..or other breeds before. I guess we were just lucky. I think it is easy to jump to the "final" conclusion when they get to be this age. I'm grateful our doctor was able to convince us to hold off! The oldest one of our sheltie kids has lived to be was one month shy of his 14th birthday. He woke up one morning...as if just to say "good-bye," and then went to sleep...very, very peacefully considering it was at home without time for any "help" other than an acepromazine tablet. Sorry to ramble...have you noticed yet that I tend to do this!?? LOL

My senior sheltie Indy spends most of his time in a royal seated pose, watching the younger three run around. He's gotten a bit stiff, a bit deaf, and a bit confused acting in his old age so he really isn't asserting himself with the younger ones anymore. In fact, one of the reasons we added Figaro to our family was so that Emma would have someone to run with as she'd pulled the hair out of Indy's tail trying to make him run more. Sasha joined our sheltie herd as we came across her plight while looking at the available shelties in our search for Figaro.

I had to laugh when I read about the tail thing as I had totally forgotten that Katie thinned out Maggies tail trying to play with her when Katie was a puppy....thanks for the memory.

Oh me too! Just this weekend, I let the boys in from outside and Indy kept smacking his lips and rubbing his face on the couch! Turns out he had a huge clump of Bacca's tail stuck in his teeth like dental floss! I had to pry his mouth open and extract it bit by bit! Poor Bacca! That must have hurt! :rolleyes2:
