No more online dog food! I've had it!

Wow, bummer.
His Smudge's stomach upset from it?
Danisgoat, your right. While I'm searching for inexpensive high quality kibble, I keep in the back of my mind that I spent $40 on my GP's food! :eek2:

I hope Smudge does ok with that necessary but suddent transition. Normally it takes a few weeks to do it properly. With any luck, Smudge will have stomach of steel and do fine.

I've heard nothing but good things about TOTW. I think you made a good choice.

I don't really think he will have a problem with it. He's changed dog foods five times since I've had him. :uhoh: First Purina, then Purina Pro, then Wellness, then Orijen, and now TOTW. I will not change again. This is his adult dog food that he will have for life.

Isn't Orijen a higher protein content than TOTW? I thought Orijen was 70% protein? :confused2:

Never say never! :smile2:

If I remember correctly Orijen is 40%. I expect that TOTW is probably around 30% which is respectable, but I've not checked it recently.

Yep, most varieties of Taste of the Wild are 30%. The Pacific Stream formula is 24%. Both varieties of Orijen are 40%.

I've had TOTW in my dogs' rotation before, also with Fromm, EVO, and NV Instinct. (Right now I'm pretty stuck on Orijen, my dogs do SO well on it.) It's all really about what food you get the best results from. I'm glad to hear that Smudge's transition is going well so far!

The Pacific Stream is 25% protein, which is right on to what we were feeding originally. The other stats were very close also. we wanted to stay as close to the percentages as we could,to hopefully help the transition.

I sure hope Smudge has no issues with digestion, and he does well.
Also talked with our Tractor Supply tonite,as we need to make a trip there Saturday.

I asked them if they carried the feline formula of TOTW. And he said most definately. Our vet mentioned getting Bumper on something a little better than the Fancy Feast dry,as she needs to put on a little weight, and he specifically mentioned TOTW. So we'll give it a try with her also.

Smudge is having very loose stools because of the TOTW. It's to be expected though. He had chicken and rice for about two weeks straight. :dead: So I think even if he would have gotten Orijen after all that time he would have had problems as well. I'm going to give it a while and see if it gets any better.

At least he's not eating poop anymore! I read somewhere that dogs sometimes eat poop when they don't get all the stuff they need in their diet. I'm sure that's what happened with him. He was only getting chicken and rice (with vibrant pets), and so I'm sure he wasn't getting everything he needed.

Great, so you were able to find something local? I was amazed when I found the place I get Sca's food, they had a zillion good brands.

He doesn't seem to have loose stools this morning, so I am hoping that it was a one time thing. I bought two bags when I went so it would be a bummer if it would have made him sick. :uhoh:

In other news the two weeks he was on the chicken and rice seemed to clear up his mangy eye some. :eek2: There was always a patch that never grew fur back. I noticed that over those two weeks the fur grew back some where it didn't before. :smile2:

I haven't been measuring his dog food since we started on the new kind because he was so skinny. He's also actually chewing his food now! None of this makes sense to me.

I did figure out why he was having loose stools sometimes while he was on the Orijen though. It seems my mom wanted to feed him some Old Mother Hubbard bones (same company that makes Wellness). So that problem is solved as well! I showed her the bag of Charlie Bears dog treats if she feels like he must have a treat while I am alseep.
