Non-Toxic Weed KillerThat Works!

Every year I struggle to find a week killer for our brick walk and gravel driveway that isn't bad for the pups. I've tried a variety of homemade recipes, none very effective...until now! This one is so easy and killed every weed I sprayed in less than 24 hours. Here it is:

One-half gallon apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup salt
1/2 teaspoon Dawn dish liquid

Mix, put in spray bottle, and watch the weeds die! :pop
 
Thanks for sharing. I have 400' of driveway that I battle weeds in to no avail. You'll be my new best friend if this works:smile2:
 
Thanks for the reminder. I had this receipe years ago but lost it.

Another idea is plain old boiling water. Truly! Boil your kettle then drain onto weeds. Beware, though, this will kill grass as well.
 
I have tried this mixture minus the salt and it sort of worked, so this weekend I will add salt and see what happens. I have wild strawberry plants that are taking over my landscaping. I don't mind the strawberries in other areas because so many critters eat them, but they are very invasive. Thanks for this "real" feedback

I've tried other combinations with vinegar, boiling water etc. and they haven't worked here either. I think it's the salt combined with vinegar that really does the work. I've heard you can just pour salt on weeds to kill them, much like just pouring boiling water on them. Neither of these has worked for me...I must have Super Weeds! But I sprayed my whole driveway yesterday afternoon with this formula and today they were already wilted and yellow.

Be aware though, that if you spray this on your grass or near plants you want to keep it can kill those too.
 
I have used this too and it works great. I find it works best on sunny day. The yard smells like a salad.

But I do have a giant dandelion that I have sprayed 3 times and it just wont die, but I will not be defeated. It is slowly beginning to loose the battle.
 
Oh no! I'm not getting rid of my weeds! If I killed them all I wouldn't have any green left! At least when I mow them down it almost looks like the green green grass of home... almost. Haha! But when the water restrictions are lifted and I have grass again I'll know how to keep the weeds away. So, THANKS!:lol:
