Now a real problem with Trapp

!!
Poor Trapp!!

Have you checked to see if he caught the hair on something in the yard (split in the underside of the wood of the picnic bench, crawling under a board of the shed, trying to dig under the fence and caught it, etc.

Also...check the mechanism of your new recliner...did he go under the leg rest and catch a hunk of fur in the hinge?

Its possible that it was Jasper, but unless you see him with a hank of fur in his mouth you can't be sure. Newton and Figaro play rough at times but it leaves a little nick, not a bald patch.

Well your right,I can't be sure.no I had not checked fencelines,or other places. As for the recliner, the times it is up,he is on it with me.So I don't think that would be a likely place.I will however go inspect the yard & fencelines.

I do think it is the issue of hormones. There are times we have caught Jasper tugging on Trapp in a really hard way.But the area looks as if someone actually shaved it.
I would think pulling a chunk like that would have broken the skin as well,or torn it.

They have both been seperated.Mia is going to be sequestered in the house. Phone calls will be made on Monday,to see if we can get some help with neuteres & spays here. To be honest,we are having a difficul time here, with loss of 1 income. But we will do what we have to do to remedy this.

Thank you everyone for your emails,I know everyone is concerned, and we just appreciate it.
Trapp is doing ok,he slept with me last night, and slept comfortable.I have been applying some ointment to keep the area from being dry.I know the hair will grow in time.

Michele sending you a hug, I hope you get this figured out soon and not sure if it is Jasper or not- that looks like a pretty good hunk. Keep us posted. Maybe it is stress related.

Poor Trapp
That is a big hunk of hair. My dogs get into it every once in a while because they both want to be alpha. Maverick once put a puncture wound from a tooth in Pal's snoot, which required antibiotics. I hope you get down to the bottom of it.

Ow!!! :eek2: Ours get into play matches, but rarely do we see injury. I suspect it was an accident, though.

I've witnessed this at doggy playgroup. The dogs get over-excited, but frustrated because they can't keep up with a faster dog, so they then either try to make a grab for them or attempt to trip them.

I have seen Cadbury try this on another choc lab that was faster than him. He got thoroughly told off by our trainer who always carries a water bottle or shake bottle on these occasions to quickly interrupt behaviour such as this.

Bear in mind young dogs are like kids, sometimes their play gets out of hand and we should always be supervising play for this reason. Also a sheltie is a herder and what do you do with a really defiant sheep that just won't go the way you want? You grab it and try to force it the way you want.

So it really is a little frustration on Jasper's part during play.

If it was me I would watch them play and have a water bottle handy, if it got out of hand I would squirt the offender and then remove them from the area. If they are outdoors, then shut Jasper indoors but stay outside with Trapp and play with him. Jasper learns that if I play rough I lose out.

Hopefully within a short span this will resolve itself.

Also I am a fan of neutering for an easy life - hormones create such challenges!

Hope Trapp heals soon.

It is a big hunk of hair, even looks worse in person. We have been monitering thier time outside together. And have been crating more, especially at night.

Jasper is back in his crate..probably till he learns it is not acceptable to potty on the floor.since we found out the culprit of the messes that were appearing.

Now..to Jasper's defense he has not felt well. But to be honest, with a 3 sheltie home, crates have givin me some sanity back.

Yesterday it was a blissful quiet day, each dog had thier crate, and I was happy.Plus it gave Jasper some down time.Trapp seemed to like his den as well.

Hormones are I think a huge contributing factor, and THAT will change very soon.I may have all 3 done at the same time, and by golly all 3 will have recup time...maybe I can get some much needed rest.
