OH NO… My girls are FAT!

Pictures… Are they fat?

So I decided to post some pictures I just took tonight. What do you all think (I know they need to lose a least a few). Checked their height and weight tonight, both 16”, Kristy is down to 40 and Belle at 38 lbs. I think they both should be 10 lbs less?. What do you think (know the pictures only go so far). Also, here’s the link to my Album so you all can see their size a little over a year ago and when I first got them and so more pics from today.

I had some fun with their picture comments in my album. heehee. Oh…, and Kristy said “please... take these pictures before dinner so I don’t look blotted….jezzzz….do you have to post these”. Ooookkkk Kristy.

Chubby or not (Daisy still looks a bit chubby to me - yours look like about the same size...she's not chubby, she's fluffy!) they are beautiful dogs Mike!

Maverick gained some wait after I got Ryder. I was potty training and treating Ryder and Maverick was treated too. He is around 161/4 " and went from 28lbs to 32lbs. Both my boys eat Welness, 3/4cups 2X, plus they get extra as treats.
I reduced the feeding to 2/3 cups 2X. Maverick is back down to 28lbs after 6 months. We dont walk as far as we used to because Ryder is a bit of a pain to walk. We play lots! of ball. Three to four, 10 minute sessions per day. And they both run like the wind. Ryder whom is two and around 161/2 " has maintained a weight of 26lbs.

You'll know when they are back to proper weight when you can put your finger on their sternum and feel tight skin with a very thin layer of fat and then bone. Don't use their sides as a measurement - can be very deceptive.

I am taking Kobe to his breeder for boarding and check his height but I am pretty sure he is not over 16 inches. He is 20-21 pounds and gets 3/4 cup of dry food a day (divided) with about a tablespoon of canned in the evening. He is 2 1/2 years old.

Oh my - I think they really are quite a bit more than "fluffy"! Asta is 18 inches and weights 28 - 29 lb. So 16 inches and 38 - 40 lb is way over where they should be.

Asta gets 1/2 cup twice daily of Innova, a sprinkle of VP joint and muscle, and a fish pill once daily. She maintains her weight well. Treats are seldom, and then often veggies or fruit. I really do try and keep them trim as it will help them live longer, healthier lives overall. See if your girls will eat baby carrots for a treat. Most dogs love them.

I got weight off one of my foster dogs, about 7 lb in a month by feeding a "light" food and lots more exercise. He felt a lot better with the weight off and became more active.

Good luck - I know it's a challenge esp. since Shelties live to eat.... :rolleyes2:

Raw Meat Diet

I have a beautiful 5 yr old Sheltie, Bailey. I have him on a raw meat diet. I feed him chicken legs and necks and I will soon be incorporating heart and liver. I feel this is great for his metabolism and his dental health. His plaque is now gone, after chewing on his bones. His weight is stable and I know he is getting protein with no fillers. It's a little more planning time, but well worth it!
Is any one else out there using the raw meat diet for their Sheltie??

I just recently switched Beau from Verus dry food, to Acana dry food and Verus wet, he gets 1/4c dry and mixed with the wet food.

We walk about 3 miles a day, he does get treats, but, more from other people than me. (Okay that's a lie, I will give him the end pieces of my bacon)
