Oversized puppy

My Beau is 19+ inches and about 40 lbs (yes, he could lose a few but he is really heavily muscled). His mother and father were both champions (and 15 and 14.5 inches respectively) and his sister was well within range, unsure if she actually became a conformation dog or not. So his line is very solid--but he is huge! It happens.

that is very true- Cranberry and Dixie are littermates- he's close to 18" at the shoulder and 30 lb while Dixie is not quite 16" at the shoulder and about 19 lb.
 
My previous Sheltie, Baron, was oversize. He was 18 1/2 inches tall and weighed 33 pounds. He was the last pup left at the breeder's and I'm certain that the reason he was left for last was that it was obvious even at 8 weeks that he was going to be too big to show. I suspect though if the breeder knew how wonderful looking he'd end up, his only fault being his size, that she would have kept him and just bred him to very small females.

The same with Minnie she should be used for breeding.
but they could see she got too big so I was allowed to buy her - thankfully for me :hugs

- she became too big now 4 year old 43 cm / 17in and weighs 11.2 kg / 24.11 lb :wink2:
 
Laddie is a big one, we call him our COLLIE. Twenty inches at the shoulders and 37 pounds of pure muscle. Infinite energy and likes to wrestle with me until I have to stop him, he get's pretty rough if I do not tell him about it.

Chip is our consummate Sheltie. Thirty four pounds and a total lover. He is almost always close to me wherever I may be. Laddie will ignore me

completely if mama is close.

Luna is 18 weeks, 14 inches in height and weighs 16 pounds. It seems she grew overnight! Is she oversized? I can't figure out where the option is to start a new thread so I am posting this question here. Also, please where do I find the tab to start a new thread on the forum? Thanks.

so there are growth charts for shelties as breeders obsess over size....
there are threads on here about that- will see if I can find one for you..

to create a new thread- go to the forum heading that you want to create the new post
Puppies 101- that heading will be on the left and directly across all the way to the right will be a blue button Post New Thread....

Looking at the Nobel growth chart at 18 weeks and 14 inches high it shows her as being oversized. Definitely out of the safe zone.
