Persistent cough with NO diagnosis after 8 months

Ok, the rhinoscopy and the brachioscopy (I know I spelled those wrong) are scheduled for Tues, Mar. 17.

Up the nose and down into the lungs. Doing the wash when she gets there.

She promised me that she would do both this time. I told her I did NOT want to have to keep putting my baby under! Scares me a lot!

So fingers crossed please. Prayers appreciated.

I hope that this will be the last time Rogue has to go under...and will keep him in my prayers.

Both the scope into the nose and the scope down into the lungs have now been done. The vet said she can see absolutely nothing whatsoever that makes this little boy cough.

She look biopsies and cell stuff for cultures. Said that maybe there is something at the cellular level that she can't see.

At least it's done now. No cancer. No tumor. No nothing that anyone can tell as of this minute.

He gets to come home tomorrow. He has to stay overnight because she took some biopsies from inside his nose. She wants to make sure he doesn't have a bleeding issue of some sort.

That initial report sounds very good. Rogue will be so happy to be home tomorrow...and I am sure you will be equally happy to have him home.

I know this still leaves you with the question about the coughing...but if any/all serious issues end up ruled out you can always treat with cough meds to help sooth his throat and keep him from causing inflammation/irritation.

Glad the tests are done.

Thanks, Trini! I'm glad they're done too. Rogue is home and happy to be here. I'm thrilled to have him back.

It was VERY quiet for 24 hrs. Rogue is our barker. Then he gets the other 2 fired up. Without him here,it was very, very quiet. And strange. :)

So now we wait to see what the biopsies and cultures show.

A little e coli but they think it might be contamination from his mouth. Other than that....not a thing. *sigh*

It is so frustrating when you run all the tests and still have no answer as to why the constant coughing.

Our Timmy Timbit, who is a rescue, came to us with a persistent cough and tests for him showed no reason either. But, just in case his cough was self perpetuating (ie when he coughed it caused irritation which made him cough more) our vet suggested a shot of Dexamethasone. We had already tried cough meds with basically no change in his coughing. The Dexamethasone worked like a miracle...and that was almost 7 years ago with no repeat shots needed.

If Rogue's cough continues it might be worth asking your vet about trying a shot of Dexamethasone to see if it can possibly bring him relief.

Somehow I missed your reply, Trini! Sorry! I will ask about that.

We just finished 2 weeks of Baytril to get rid of any possibility of ecoli. Now he's taking prednisone and metronidazole. This is to be a 6 month protocol to see if this will help him. And he's transitioning to venison and potato food.

We'll see if any of this helps him. Poor little boy.
