Peta is at it again

So I was browsing Petfinder.com just to look for shelties in my area... sooo many gorgeous dogs in shelters or foster care... (i dont want one right now since I just got a puppy) but maybe somewhere down the road I will want a buddy for Snickers... BUT I WONT BE ABLE TO GET ONE... because 99.9% of the shelties on petfinder have a MUST HAVE A FENCED IN YARD TO BE CONSIDERED. That totally angers me!!

I am not good enough for a sheltie because i dont have a fence??

As I have said I have a huge yard ,....my pup has at least 50 feet of lead to run his little A S S off. HE loves it. ZOOMIES all day and nite!! Sure I would like to have a fenced in yard... Id like 20 milllion dollars and a personal chef as well..but some of us cant have these things. I have a big house for them too play in (an older home) and family with other shelties to visit only 2 miles away..... But all they care about is a fenced in yard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So they would give a sheltie to a potential psycho as long as he has a FENCED IN YARD!!!

I would give a sheltie puppy/dog a great home instead of him/her being at a rescue but I dont "qualify". Sure I can buy a sheltie but what if i wanna help a rescue find a forever home!!! That is just sooo wrong.

Sorry for the rant ... but seeing all those shelties on petfinder and knowing I cant have one got me fired up.:mad:

I have to agree. I think it's very unreasonable for there to be a fence requirement. My daughter has two shelties and is the best dog mom I know. She lives in an apartment with no yard at all. But she exercises her dogs and they live a very priveledged little life. Doesn't seem right that you can't help a dog that needs a home just because you don't have a fenced yard.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I will speak up for PETA (as a whole) on this particular issue. I'm not crazy about the organization, nor would I hand an animal over to them unless I was dead...

BUT.

I think they get a bad rap, and it's easier to pin the issue on PETA than dealing with the actual jerks doing it.

A few years ago, a man on my street was putting out antifreeze and injected chicken parts to kill animals. The local law enforcement would do nothing. TV stations wouldn't get involved. A call to PETA and there was instant pressure on the police station and TV circuits. It's because of PETA that the anti-freeze was picked up, and I personally talked to the action awareness (I think?) guy most of the day until it was dealt with. Everyone I spoke with from PETA was concerned with getting the anti-freeze up immediately and the person prosecuted.

Unfortunately, Mississippi had no laws at the time regarding it. I think the fine now is only 6 months in jail...but we were told that even if you have antifreeze sitting on your doorstep, nothing can be done.

Just to sum up, I don't believe that everyone involved in PETA is a bad person. I think it has extremist fringe segments like every other group in the world, but they can do good things.
