Thumbs up for the Dremel Styluus

I LOVE my Dremel Styluus. It is my 3rd Dremel product for doing the dogs nails. I do 8-10 dogs a week, and it is really holding up. I like the fact that the speeds range from 1-10. When puppies get around 10 weeks, I go from cutting their nails to using the Dremel. I like the fact that I can do them on setting #2, so it is quiet, and they get used to it.

On the adults, I crank that baby up to #7-8, and fly through 32 or more feet.

The other thing I really like is, on my old ones, I had to remove the battery pack and remember to recharge it. The charge never held enough to get through all the dogs. The styluus drops into it's own re-chargable holder.

I saw this Info commercial where the trimmer gently carves away the nail little by little and Never hurts the dog. Is this the same thing ??

I have no idea, as I would never put an ounce of credibility in an infomercial.

Using the sand paper drum on the barrel, I am able to roll the edges. Try to imagine that the toe-nail when done, looks like the end of a Q-tip.

I haven't looked into these products as you have, so my line of thinking may be wrong. But unless they've improved batteries for products such as these, I'd stay way from them. In general, cordless tools have less power than corded tools and the batteries tend to die quickly. I'm sure there must be something out there that have better batteries, and probably sold by Dremel, but are probably much more expensive.

Its too bad there's not someway you could try them all first!

Is yours the Stylus model that is shaped like a handgun? I went to check it out at the hardware store and I love the feel of it in my hand.

Fedace, as I've discovered, there are dremmels and then there are dremmels. I currently have a Peticure, and yes, its "as seen on TV" - the other one is Pedipaws. The problem with them is that on an older dogs nails, they just don't get the job done. And the nail guard actually seems to hinder rather than help.

That's why I'm looking into getting the real thing.

Ontario Sheltie....I still have not decided but I was leaning towards the stylus. More expensive, but hey, if I ever get into crafting (as if! ) it will do double duty!

Yes, that is the one I have. It was a Christmas present from my husband, LOL! So, I don't know what it cost.......but I would guess, less then a diamond bracelet!

Reminds me of my ex-husband. Our first Christmas together, I was a student with no money, living on my own. He asked me whether I wanted a carpet cleaner or ski poles for Christmas! I went with the ski poles....I guess I was hoping there was a romantic ski holiday in the works. Didn't happen!

(And no, we are no longer married! ). I have a new partner now, and yes, I finally did get a diamond bracelet from HIM!

Thanks for the feedback. I think you've just tipped the balance for me to the Stylus. Now I just have to find one. My Home Depot only had the floor model....everything else sold out. It'll cost maybe about $30 more, but that's alot of trips to the groomers I will save.

Well, I settled on the Dremel Stylus 1100 but do you think I could find one anywhere in the city! I went to 5 different places. They were either sold out, or the computer said they had them in stock but they couldn't find the freakin' things.

I may have to order online which means waiting. I don't "do waiting well". I need to do the boys nails and I really wanted my new toy to do them. Pouting here! :sadsmile:

Barb I think you will really be happy with your choice. I use the smaller sanding drum. The setting I use is between 5/6. Then I go back over on the 2 setting to do a smooth even finish. Granted my female isn't as big (as your boys) and she is really small boned, but you will have more than enough power. I've had mine for over a year and it works fine. I don't actually charge mine until the batteries die. And I don't know if it makes any difference on the lithium, but I was always told to let the batteries quit before recharging. Is suppose to make the batteries last longer and hold a charge longer.
