Pigs Ears, Bully Sticks, anyone use rawhide?

Zak loves bully sticks. I did not know what they were till my vet told me, all I know is Zak loves them and that is okay with me.

I buy Mericks when I do give this kind of stuff. Mostly, though, I don't. No one cares about the antler I got.

I'm a miser.....my pups mostly get carrotts! And only at the cottage, because my hubby insists on spoiling them!

Sometimes I'll give them a rawhide if I think about it. Once in a blue moon, they might get a denta-bone.

I'm really not into "over-treating" my dogs.

pups get bully sticks, lamb ears and flossies. I buy in bulk from US bones, which sends 25% of your purchase payment to your charity of choice so mine goes to CISR. Great quality and reasonably priced. Che is much stonger chewer and I keep it on hand for those long stretches when they crated long time of just show desire to chew on something. It is less now that Che is closing on 2 years old. Leo was never a big chewer so it is almost no issue with him.
Recently I got some dried tripe sticks, those smell awful but dogs do adore it. They do not last long but I have used it for particularly need "shut up for few minutes" situations:lol:

Ha ha ha ha!

I didn't know what bully sticks were made of until after I actually brought one home for Bela. I told hubby what they were made of, and he turned pale and forbid me to every bring them in the house again.

They don't really bother me (I grew up on a working farm), but I got a real kick out of hubby's reaction. But Bela just sniffed at it, then never showed any other interest, so it got tossed. But it was worth it just to see hubby's reaction. Hilarious!

That is so funny. Reminds me of the day I was out with my parents in Deadwood S.D. at this very western/wild west touristy resturant. They had Rocky Mt. Oysters and Prime Rib on sepcial. The couple at the next table were debating between them and Oh they just loved oysters. Well, my Dad spoke up and said he didn't mean to eaves drop but he would go with the Prime Rib as the RMO were not oysters. Their interest perked they asked what they were and when my Dad told them they were bull *uh um bits* They turned about 3 shades of green and thank him for the suggestion.

For the record my guys love bully sticks it is their favorite treat. I don't give pigs ears too fatty. I do give cows ears but they just lay around for weeks until they are chewed up.

So as someone who doesn’t have a dog (yet) I was reading this thread and wondering what bully sticks were and why there was a predominate reaction to finding out what they were made of… so I googled it. :eek2: Let’s just say as someone who did not grow up on a farm and finds that kind of gross… my dog will not be getting that particular treat regardless on how delicious my pup might find it. :dead:

The breeder I got my doggies from recommended bully sticks, so I knew what they were going in. (Fundamentally, as a male, I had way more difficulty with having Jake neutered than I do with letting them gnaw on that part of a bull. It's also reassuring to know that, given that part can be sold for so much, it's unlikely to end up in hamburger.)

Both dogs love them -- if not for that, I could surely do without the smell. I'm grateful it doesn't linger on their breath very long! One thing I learned the hard way, do not store them in a closed container! Somehows it amplifies the stink.

I've given them raw hides but they weren't too interested in them. (To me the way pig ears look is revolting, so I haven't managed to force myself to try them.)

it will be choice between letting you dog chew your furniture/ favorite shoes and bully sticks... I think you will see the light of wisdom:lol:

Bully sticks get a bad rep for what they are but they are actually really good for a dog's teeth and gums. I always just tell my friend to be sure you know where they are sourced from before you buy them. Also, you can get the much cheaper online than places like PetCo or PetSmart, places like that.
