Playground Sheltie !!!

I was at the playground yesterday with my Grandgirls enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having and a car pulls up and out roll three kids and a sheltie , a bi black, on a leash. The girl with the sheltie runs to a slide- ten foot slide and begins to climb up the ladder and the sheltie is following her. I know my mouth fell open. Then the girl slides down the cork screw slide with the sheltie following right behind on the leash. Then they head over to the merry-go-round and she shoves the sheltie up on it and around they go. The sheltie is slipping some so she scoops the dog up on her lap and continues to whirl.

I am fascinated and have to remind myself to check where my grand daughters are.:pop Then they jump off the merry-go-round and climb up another slide and then slide down right in front of where I am sitting. I can't resist any more so I go over and ask if I can pet their dog and yea sure I can. I ask his name and Harley walks right up to me for some loving. I said he seems to like the playground as much as they do and they just say "yep, he loves to slide."

I have never met a more outgoing non spooky sheltie in my life. I told poor ole Sally about it when I got home and she just gave her same soulful eyed look and patted my arm so I would take HER out for some fun !! Wonder what she would do if I took her to slide ? Anyone out there in sheltie world have dog that does this ?! :confused2:

I haven't tried this with a Sheltie (being a bit too big for the playground equipment). But when I was a little girl, I had a black Cocker Spaniel, Duchess, who did exactly the same thing. She rode on the merry-go-round, climbed the slide with me, rode the swings, and rode everywhere in my bicycle basket. Such happy memories!!

My sheltie angel Jasmine enjoyed playing on the playset with us at our neighborhood park and would go down the slide with us :smile2:.

Not my shelties but as a child we had a black lab who was my best friend. She loved climbing the sliding board and sliding down. Even the one that was about 20ft high. She was so popular doing this that our local newspaper did a photo and write up about us.

How fun is that! My dogs are not fans of the slide...I'm not sure they're big fans of any motion they feel like they can't control :)

Honey loves the playground! For our morning walk we need to stop at the local park every day (it's totally run down and creepy with equipment from like.. the 70's, complete with a decapitated swing clown (if anyone remembers those)) and she makes me take her down the slide and than asks for swinging time. Because the slides so steep and only has two inch sides, I make her go down on my lap, but at newer playgrounds she's all about doing it herself.

This summer I stopped at our favorite park, and there was a camp thing going on, we went over to the slide and she did her thing, and everyone started applauding (which she eats up, cause she's a total ham). She's even got her chocolate lab friend doing slides too.

Here she is about a year ago on her favorite slide.

Awww, Honey is cute. I have never seen a dog do that at a playground, but, I wager that Laddie would play if given the chance, I know he would if I held him, hmmmm, I may try that next time Laddie and I are at the park.

I've taught my Sheltie to climb almost everything on the playground, go down the slide and go under and over anything possible. Going to the park is essentially going to the agility course for Mavvi and me. :)
