Please help! Groomer combed out my sheltie's complete undercoat and I can see her red skin

Hello everyone. She is not as red today. I just got off the phone from the groomer. The lady responsible is saying that my sweet girl had red skin before she started grooming her and that she had a skin irritation.
I would have known this before I took her!!
 
I have heard so many horror stories with shelties and groomers....guess Gavin is happy he is never going to the groomers as he isn't a fan of being combed!
 
Four hours? Insanity. I hope your baby is feeling better today. The gang here gave you great advice!
 
I combed under coat from our boys two days ago. I had plenty. Both will tell me when enough is enough but I seldom push it more than 10 or 15 minutes per time. Usually do separate things during the groom. Mix it up so they don't get irritated with you as well as their skin.
I have a niece who has a grooming shop. The kids keep telling me I should let her do the boys, I just like to do it. My results, I am sure are not as good as most groomers. The boys are happy with my efforts if for no other reason than the treats they get while I am doing it.

Groomed Chip some every day until we got Laddie. Every day with everything is different with Laddie. lol

She's not red anymore, just a little pink. We are spoiling her even more than usual! I'm praying her hair grows back quickly. The groomer told me that if I would take her to the vet and have a skin test to prove that she did not have any type of skin fungus that she would reimburse my grooming fee of $68.00. Since she's looking better each day, I don't know about taking her to the vet. I'd end up paying for a vet visit and I don't trust that she would actually reimburse the groom fee anyway. She'd probably have another type of excuse.
 
How does that make sense - surely a vet visit with a skin biopsy will be as much as the grooming fee so you'd be out of pocket.

It doesn't make sense. It's the groomer looking for a way to avoid refunding the money. I'd send a letter to the owner saying you expect a full refund (you should get this at the very least!) and never take a dog to this place again!
 
For $68 I would walk away and have a good day else where. Find a new groomer (or do it yourself). Give your girl a big hug and smile. She is going to be fine and I strongly doubt she had any issue other than being brushed and brushed and well brushed (the 4 hours is also likely an exaggeration). It is not worth $68 to continue to deal with these people in my opinion.

Oh and Sca says in addition to the pet she needs a cookie.
