Please help! Groomer combed out my sheltie's complete undercoat and I can see her red skin

I agree with you SOB, I'm just going to walk away. It's not worth the headache of even thinking about it anymore since she is getting better now. I will never take her back again and yes, I want to learn how to groom her myself. This has been a horrible experience for us. I don't trust anyone anymore.

Tell Sca that she has been enjoying her peanut butter dog cookies and ice cream.

Actually, I'd like to go see that groomer! A groomer that would spend 4 hours line combing to get out the dead coat is my kind of a deal... especially for only $68!!!!
It is my goal to get Justus completely de fuzzed (hot summer coming!) and my hands cramp after 20 minutes...
Seriously, is there anything more ridiculous than a mature, neutered male coat? It's quadtripple thick!!!!

Uh no way, 2GoodDogs, if you love your dogs you wouldn't want them to experience that kind of torture. My dog was sore, sensitive to the touch and could hardly be petted. She had many bloody marks from the comb and her little hips and knees were so weak from standing and the pulling on her body that she would fall down trying to come up the porch steps.
Seriously, if you dread tending and combing out your shelties so bad, give them to a loving home and get a cat!

She feels better every day. I can't see any new undercoat yet, maybe a bit of tiny fuzz starting to grow.
Thank you for asking, Cindy.

I was talking about this with my husband. His response was, "Well the first thing I would do would be crawl over that counter and punch them in the face." This is why we groom at home. Although to be honest, I applaud you for NOT doing that, because I'm sure it crossed your mind.

Yes ma'am, I wanted to "comb her over" like she did my sweet girl. I'm taking this experience as a lesson learned. I'll groom at home from now on. I just need to learn how to make her look pretty. I've been watching you-tube videos.

Good for you! It's really not that hard, and once you learn you'll find it's a great bonding experience for you and your dog. The best source around to learn from is a Sheltie breeder, but if that isn't an option I highly recommend Sheltie Talk. It's the definitive guide for all things Sheltie, including grooming. They can be hard to find, but there are a few of the old hardcover copies on Amazon, or you can get the newer one here: https://www.abebooks.com/9780931866...7FrnopIXuVGgOp41QSZNKMWkkmmIB-JIHUhoCcTrw_wcB
