I have to resurrect this thread again. I am so totally grossed out I can't stand it.
To say that Gussy Gus indulges in a little scat would be an understatement. But, please, Gus !!! Can Big Dee at least walk away from it before you chow down on the steaming mass?
This, of course, after he had a bath and groom and was looking beautiful. Then he turns into the sheltie with a fetish. Granted, Dee is eating Merrick's "Grammy's Pot Pie" and "Turducken," but one would think a little a little wait time is in order before eating. You know, like Italian spaghetti sauce--you turn it off a half hour before serving to let it rest.
I don't even have time to grab paper towels or a doggie bag. UGGH!

OMG, Meggie was doing this today too. Lucy wasn't even done going and Meggie was trying to get the poop. I'm totally grossed out too! I'm constantly trapsing through the snow now, picking up poop before they can. Yes, THEY, Lucy decided it's tasty now too!

Time for the "Leave It" command.
I've found it for effective for my pups! Of course, you have to be with them, and sometimes they can get downright sneaky about it, if you don't have their eagle eye on them.
The other thing to try would be to shake a can full of rocks everytime he goes for it (behind your back where he can't see). Done consistently, he will associate the noise with his action and hopefully scare him off.

Yes, unfortunately, that's what I mean.
Barb, the "leave it" commands works for everything but poop where Meggie is concerned. She learned that command as a pup and it has been effective for many different things. But there is something about poop that just intrigues her. She seems to go in phases, doing it for a period of time and then stopping for a period of time. She had stopped when I changed her food to try to get her to lose a couple of pounds. She started eating Lucy's poop then. I transitioned her back to her regular food, but she never stopped eating the poop. It's really the only thing I find that she just won't do what I want. She's pretty easy to train, otherwise.

I've done some reading in the past when researching diets and have come across this topic. And today, after reading this, I did some quick on line research and this is what I have read about Corophagy - the eating of feces:
This is a common complaint about a very common and natural event. Coprophagy- the eating of feces- is not due to a disease of the bowel or even a bad habit. It is admittedly a discussion that most people view as a disgusting habit or a nutritional need. It is not uncommon for a carnivore to eat the feces of an animal as they consume the whole carcass. Even nursing dogs keep the nest clean by avidly licking the feces of their young at the moment it is passed. Dogs even obtain benefit from domestic cat poo,. Poo that is obtained from cats and dogs that have been fed grain – based artificial food- is rich in enzymes and teeming with micro-organisms. The more microbial enzymes consumed – the more it contributes to its digestive efficiency.

Whoa! And we've been promoting grain-free diets? Only to have our dogs eat poo instead from animals who are on grain diets? Now I am confused!
