Poor Annabelle

Annabelle was scooting a bit for a couple of weeks, so I decided it was time for the vet. I don't rush off after the first scoot, because sometimes they just want to get a dingler off. I took her in to get expressed, and the vet tech took her to the back, but didn't come back with my Annabelle! So I asked, and the tech thought things didn't look right and wanted the vet to look at her. So several hours later (or the actual ten minutes instead of the feels like time) the vet comes up with a bloody glove and my poor pumpkin had severely infected anal glands. So now, she has to get poked every four days until the bleeding stops. And I feel horrible, but she wasn't acting sick. Even the vet tech said she didn't act like they normally act.

Aw poor Annabelle! My mom's dog had an infected anal gland. She actually had to get hers removed.

Feel better Annabelle!

Poor girl. I hope Annabelle feels better soon.

Don't be too hard on yourself for not knowing something was wrong. These darn stoic Shelties don't let us know they aren't feeling well until it's serious.

Some dogs show literally no symptoms even when their glands are full...at least now you have her getting the care she needs. Hope the infection clears up soon so Annabelle won't have to have too many repeat pokes...not fun!

I just wanted to cry when I saw that stupid bloody glove. I've been having nightmares all weekend. The vet tech sometimes they cry out when it's that bad, but Annabelle just looked relieved. I'm trying to not be too hard on myself. I'm just so thankful that I did get her in before she became septic or had to have surgery to remove the things.

You are a good doggie Mom and Annabelle is lucky to have you...don't beat yourself up about this.

I have one of my poms who doesn't scoot or show any signs of discomfort when his glands are full and they fill up fairly fast ...so I schedule him automatically for every 8 weeks to have them expressed...so far this has kept us from having trouble.

Poor little thing...
I know she must be feeling a bit better today. Hope it clears up soon!

For what it is worth, I took my sisters little female in for a dental and told the tech she was scooting and asked if he could check her. He said her glands were full! He expressed them and she is home now.

I had NO IDEA this could result in something more serious! Your post enlighten me and will make me ever more vigilant! So, my thanks to you for your post!

You are a good sheltie mom!! You helped others too!!!!
