I remember reading that it’s females that make you really work for it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I really do adore this puppy even with her challenges. I just sometimes don’t know where to start with her!!

Yeah, depending on Mindy’s mood, I have to use higher value treats than kibble for this. What fascinates me about her is that she never just picks the ball up with her mouth to move it. Instead, she tries pushing it out of the way with her nose or paw.

They both are fed meals out of a Kong feeder and they both paw at it to dump the kibbles out (my sisters big dog pushes it around with his snout rolling all over the place) so I guess I’m not surprised that they both used Mindy’s paw method.
 
I'm wondering if I'm going to have the opposite problem eventually! Meadow is just fine on her own, thank you very much! She bravely explores and never whimpers or worries where we are. She's been out in the yard on her own (me watching from window) and happy as a clam. Maybe it will be different when she is a teen.

I suddenly have a shadow. It’s about 25#, black, slightly shaggy. She’s a mama’s girl for sure. She will nap on her own but the second she thinks something is going on... she needs to know.

I just heard from her breeder that apparently pups out of her sire are sought after in agility circles in Canada, at least.... this may explain somethings. :uhoh::uhoh:

Roxy is from Canada? Kip's father lives in Canada.

I think 'chill out' on a mat is great. If you've read 'Control Unleashed: The Puppy Program" there are lots of great tips for training a solid relaxed mat behavior.

I do a lot of desensitization with a mat (not so much with Kip, but my reactive Catahoula needs this). For example, he gets worked up about the cat: I get out the mat and he lies down on it. I pet the cat with one hand at the same time as giving Geri a treat (or a constant stream of treats if needed). Then I try to stretch it out a bit: Pet Cat > Geri stays on mat > Give him a cookie. Pet cat for 30 seconds >Geri stays on mat > Give him a cookie. Then increase the challenge by doing more exciting things before rewarding Geri, like picking up the cat, playing with the cat, walking around holding the cat (BTW my cat is fine with all this - I wouldn't do this if she was uncomfortable around Geri). The goal is for Geri to stay calm on his mat no matter what. I don't know if something like this might work for Roxy?

Roxy is from the Finger Lakes area of NY but her father is Canadian.

Our trainer here just posted a link for two months of training through “homeschool your dog” it’s free for two months! I signed up last night.
