Possible double double merle?

Im thinking more along the lines of poor breeding since the female my friend purchased is almost 2 now and she is only about 14" tall and 17lbs, and looks like a sheltie just very poor breeding. She is built more like dad, she definitally doesnt look like the mom.

14" and 17lbs is normal and in standard for shelties.

My girls are that size. Ember is 13 3/8 and 17lbs(she should be about 15lbs) and Diva is 13 5/8 and 20lbs.

Diva has 3 AKC points in limited showing(she beat 8,9 and 9 bitches so they were almost 2pt wins) and she has tons of reserves wins. She finished her UKC Ch in one weekend with 4 herding group placements(2 2nd and 2 3rd). Not a poor quality girl at that size.

I am no expert, but if I had to guess, I would say that both the dogs pictures are double merles, specifically for the reason that Narmowen stated. Most CHW shelties have color on their heads, and these dogs do not.

Why is this woman breeding 2 merles together at all? No dog, even suspected to have the merle gene, should be bred to another merle, much less 2 double merles.

Amen to that!

People breed double merles because then you have a dog guaranteed to produce merles with a tri or bi black.

Not ALL double merles have health problems, either.

(I myself wouldn't chance it, but that's why some people do).

Well since I am not well versed in genetics, nor even can I make a viable conversation on the subject,I was speaking in referance to Mia.

What I do know,is little about her parentage, but I do think this so called "breeder" decided to take a huge chance on breeding two merles together..then lie about it to the rescue at the time she (breeder) surrendered the litter. She tried to say,one of the dogs was a sable.

While I am not versed well in genetics,I have read a great deal in the last week.As far as I am concerned, one that does such things is only playing roulet..in hopes of getting a puppy that is white, and one that does not have some sort of disability.

So I say shame on these people that take these "chances"..then turn around and euthanize because of thier stupidity.Instead they should be held accountable, and find these disabled puppies loving and nurturing homes, and never put themsleves in the same bracket as the many other responsible breeders, that do educate themselves in genetics,as yourself and the many other folks here that I have the privledge to know here.

I just emailed my friend who got the female from the so called "breeders" and sent her everyones opinions on what she was, but from what she said is the breeders called her "highly white factored" and my friend being nieve bought her because she was unusual....not a huge deal as she had her sight/hearing checked and all is normal, and the dog is spayed and is a pet, but from what she said is that she thought there was only 2 other pups in the litter (atleast that was what was there when she picked up her pup)....but hopefully these wanna be breeders dont breed the dogs anymore.... Thank you everyone for your help I didnt know where else to post this to try and help her figure out what color she had on her hands.
