Prayers for Revel please

Hope Revel is feeling better, must always be such a stress when a senior gets sick and you worry if it's temporary or something worse. Calliesmom might be onto something, I know inner ear issues are common as humans age. Let's hope it's just age slowing him down and he'll be better this morning. Wonder if there are BPPV exercises for dogs with vertigo like the human ones.

Unfortunately the situation today does not look so good. I slept on the camp bed with Revel last night and he was up and down quite a bit. I took him out a few times to see if he needed to go but he just stood. This morning he was pretty tired and slept on in his basket until quite late. When he woke he was sick, mainly bile and water but I took him outside again afterwards and he had another wee. I decided that if it was nausea caused by the vestibular disease then an injection was in order to combat it as he still showed no signs of wanting to eat. I took him to the vets and he walked quite well from the car park to the surgery. The vet (a different one to our previous vet who has sadly now retired) didn't want to confirm or deny the vestibular, as Revel didn't have all of the signs but agreed the best course of action was to combat the vomiting so gave the injection. Revel walked out again and was interested in his surroundings and the other dog in there which I took as a good sign. All he wanted to do when he got home was sleep, although he woke up about lunch time and drank some water, had another wee and moved about a bit. I managed to get him to eat a tiny bit of the prescription Royal Canin Gastro food which I got a tin of to stimulate his appetite, but since then he hasn't wanted to eat any more and just wants to sleep again.

I'm really not sure now which way this is going to go. I've always said when Revel doesn't want to eat then that's going to be a strong indicator, but if it's just nausea the injection should work. He looks very old and tired right now, but not in any apparent pain or distress and the vet confirmed that he was well hydrated and his heart and reflexes were normal. He's still fighting.

I think you'll know, in your heart, what's the right decision. Our beloved companions have a way of speaking directly to our hearts -- so listen carefully to what Revel is trying to tell you, and trust yourself.

So sorry to hear things aren't so good today. Revel is so blessed to have you looking after him. Thinking of you both.

I am hoping and praying sweet Revel is feeling a bit better today!
My heart just goes out to you!
It is difficult when they will not eat or drink enough to keep up their strength...
None of us want to eat or drink when we feel nauseated.

Hope the injection provided the boost he needs to gain his strength back!
Thanks for keeping us up to date on his progress... We all are praying for you both!
Blessings to you and dear sweet Revel!

Thank you for all your kind thoughts, they really do help
Yesterday evening I genuinely thought I was going to lose him. He looked tired, he looked like he wanted to go. He slept for about 14 hours in a really deep sleep, I slept beside him on the camp bed and kept thinking he had gone. It just seemed as if he was slipping away. However this morning, just as my auntie arrived to watch him while I took the other dogs out, he suddenly got up, had some water and a few mouthfuls of food and then I carried him out and he had a wee and continued to potter around the garden. When I got back. my auntie had put him back on his bed as he had laid down so I watched over him during the rest of the morning and afternoon while he had another very deep sleep. I was still half expecting him to go but when Jessica came in from school and wanted a carrot I gave some to the other dogs as well and suddenly Revel was trying to get up again. I offered him a tiny piece of carrot and he snatched it out of my hand and ate it, then had a few mouthfuls of food. He seemed to want to drink mainly so I took him out and brought the bowl out as well, he had another wee and spent the rest of the afternoon pottering about in the garden and continuing to drink. He only sort of 'sips' the water now, has done for some time. It doesn't seem terribly efficient but seems to be enough. He's had a few more mouthfuls of food but still isn't very interested in eating. However his behaviour today is more normal than it has been since this began. I've just laid him down on his bed and he is sleeping, but it seems a more natural sleep, where he is flexing his feet and just lying less flatly. Can't describe it except that tonight he looks like a 3D dog, last night he looked 2D. He's not out of the woods by any means but he doesn't seem ready to go just yet. This morning I was 100% certain that he wouldn't see another day, but he felt differently. We're just taking each day as it comes right now.:fl
