Randy had a liver ultrasound last Wednesday as well as an examination of his tongue for which he was anesthesized. He had a tumor removed from his tongue in August. Before last Wednesdy Randy had never, in 9 1/2 years left one piece of kibble in his bowl. Since las Wednesday he has not cleaned up his food. He refuses kibble, might eat a little dry, is picky about everything else. Vet thinks he may be having nausea lingering from the anesthesia so he's taking Cerena and and ulcer med. He has been put under five times since August. He acts like his mouth may be sore but I can't find any sore spots in his mouth. I am worried sick about him.

I am so sorry Randy is not feeling well. I remember when he had the tumor removed. Is it possible he could be sensitive where they did the biopsy? I sure hope this get's solved soon as I know how concerning it is when our pups won't eat. I will keep him in my prayers.

I'm sorry to hear about Randy's issues. I don't have any suggestions for you other than trying some baby food if his mouth is sensitive. I'm sending prayers and pats your way that he improves soon!

those are common side effects of anesthesia, sore throat and cough due to mechanical damage/ irritation ...
also liver enlargement, problems with digestion due to need to deactivate/ process all those anesthesia meds...

Will keep Randy in my prayers to feel better. Maybe try a little warm water over the top of his dry food and stir. Mally likes his this way. (it will be easier for him to eat if his mouth is sore). Please continue to keep us updated. Thanks.
Hug him for me.

I was thinking maybe a sore throat too. With the tube that goes down their throat...it does happen. Our boy even ended up needing antibiotics for a throat infection following neuter surgery...

What pre-op was used? Deska was very unwell after surgery so last time he had anaesthesia he didnt get a preop and recovered really well. My vet said some collie breeds react to the preop - so I am guessing its an MDR1 gene reaction.

Randy ate some wet food this a.m. and just a little kibble that was mixed up in the wet food. He did take his Denamarin tablets willingly so that is hopeful.

Caro-He had Valium as the pre-op. I can't remember the anesthesia meds but can get them this afternoon.

Thanks for the update. Happy to hear Randy ate some food this morning and took his tablets willingly. This is a good sign! Reading this has made my morning!!!

If the preop is Ace, then it's definitely an MDR-1 reaction.

My vet had all kinds of fun spaying my MDR-1 mutant/mutant Collie.
