PRP injections

Rboy,
Thank you so much for your informative reply. PLEASE let me know your results with the PRP injections. Missy had no benefit from the laser treatments, nor the acupuncture or steroid injection (that I was against but talked into by a vet surgeon that I will not see again). Thank you also for your suggestion different acupuncturists may make a difference. The acupuncturist we saw was not a vet. There is a vet a bit further away I found does acupuncture and was considering giving it a try with her. After your suggestion, I will. Missy is on Gabapentin, Tramadol, and Carprofen. Once my vet suggested increasing the times I gave the Gabapentin and did it a bit different she seems to be more comfortable. We also gave twice weekly Adequate injections for several years till the vet said it was not working any longer. I give Dasaquin also. I do not believe it helps, but I can afford it and it makes ME feel better. I decided against trying the Assissi loop after investigating it and knowing just what Missy will tolerate and this is not it. We also have a ramp and scatter rugs everywhere. I am embarrassed to have company drop in unexpected!

I have often thought of a stroller for Missy, but she is so phobic about so many things, I do not think she would stay in it without panicking . Could you tell me what type you bought and where? I do walk Missy 1/4 to 3/4 mile daily, broken up in 2-3 different walks. You have given me a lot of help information and I thank you.

You may wish to look into a different type of Nsaid.. Galliprant. It gets positive reviews. Our dog has been on it for about 3 years although he will be going off it for the first time when we get the PRP injections.

Flexident UC advanced also came highly recommended although it does take several weeks to make a difference if it even does.

In re accupuncture... The MEDICAL kind is what our vets practice. You may want to consider emaillng Dr. Petty and ask him if he knows of a resource in your area. We did an initial loading dose (few times in a few weeks... kinda like Adequan) as that can be revealing as to whether it may be effective or not. We saw a difference, surprisingly to us, and then went to monthly. We now shortened the time to 3weeks and combine it with Class IV cold laser. We do continue to see a difference but regrettably it isn't lasting very long.

Im sure you know weight reduction is critical too. Our boy has many, many issues, with Atypical cushings being one of them so he has a voracious appetite. Combine this with limited exercise and it's almost impossible to slim him down.

Our stroller is from Pet Gear. It is large enough for him to sprawl out, very stable, has mesh on all sides. Our dog really likes it. I tried to post a pic but couldn't figure how to do it here.

I ordered Dr. Petty's book on Amazon so will hopefully find some useful information. Yes, weight is huge. Missy came to us 8 yrs ago from the dog pound at 34 lbs. She is very small boned and was huge. Back then she could walk much further and faster. I managed to have her lose 12 lbs with Wellness Core Fat Free dog food and believe it or not a huge amount of steamed green beans everyday. I mix just one tablespoon of canned food with the green beans and she gobbles it down. A person I "met" online years ago gave me the idea of green beans telling me how low in calories and filling they are. Even with her huge appetite I have been able to maintain her weight. I hope you see good results with the PRP injections and I will be watching for your update.

Our pooch has been eating fresh steamed green beans most of his life. Green Beans have been a life saver for us. Because of significant food allergies, high cholesterol, chronic pancreatitis (he also has trouble processing fat etc) he has been eating fresh kangaroo meat, butternut squash, and green beans with his kibble. Even though we measure out his food portions .. due to his limited activity and cushings, he has gained about 2 lbs and is now about 25 lbs. You did great getting that much weight off and what a gift you gave your pooch by doing so.

Hoping for the best and will advise how things work with the injections
