The breeder had my new pup on purina complete. I had food allergy issues with my late Sheltie and want to switch her to a better quality food. My question is ...What food all of you use on your Sheltie babies? I know there is a place to compare foods but im asking what is best for our breed? I always used the Taste of the Wild for my late Buddy.

I use Taste of the Wild with Cleo and she is doing great. Others on this forum love the Fromm brand. I may switch to that if someone goes wrong with TOTW. Here is a recent discussion they had regarding Fromm.

I fed my puppy the Fromm Puppy (I think it was Gold in the pink bag).

They did great with it.

Congratulations on the puppy! Enjoy all that cute fluffiness it doesn't last long enough :smile2:

Another vote for Fromm Gold puppy - great food! Nutri-source is also a good option.

We feed our cat Taste of the Wild and he loves it. Haven't tried any of theie dog formulas but they're probably good too.

Here is a 4th for Fromm's. Phoebe is seven months and I am now giving her half puppy and half adult. I have to admit though to giving her occasional bits of cheese and apple.

For a long time, we fed Acana. But with that (and Orijen), we had to fight weight gain. Then we switched to Great Life, and that's been the best by far. They get enough to satisfy, everyone loves the taste, and we don't have to supplement with green beans to fill them up. Weights are stable, too.

anything BUT purina...they may have been ok WAY back when...but why a breeder would use it, hmmmmm, not a knowledgeable breeder.

Trash product full of waste, not food but waste byproducts of inferior origin and substance! It is like bringing your kids up on twinkies.

Another one here on Fromm, Alta is currently 5 months old, she is on gold puppy, at what age do I start to make the switch to Fromm adult?

We switched to adult at 7 months. Just keep an eye on her weight - I'd say after 6 months you can switch at anytime. If she's a good weight and pretty active you can keep her on puppy for up to a year. It's up to you really.
