Puppy is home alone and very upset

When my puppy was little she wasn't very food motivated either. She was more toy motivated. But some of it was just finding the right treat. She LOVES cheese and chicken. For commercial treats, she likes Stella & Chewy's. They are expensive but were great for jackpot treats in potty-training.

We used toys for some things, like walking on leash. I used to always walk her with a squeaky toy. (Twigs and other stuff I pick up work too. She always wants what I have.) But food is great for crate training and anything that requires them to be calm.

everyone has given great advice and tips.
when was crate training my girls, i would have a special treat and toy that was only for when they had to go in ''cubbies'' all other times, their cubbies were left open, each has own cubbie.
when i say ''cubbie time'' they all go to their cubbies. they each have their own

Crate training still isn't going very well. Missy still cries and barks, but not as long. I tried crate games. I would get her all riled up with a game of fetch, and they after a while throw the toy in the crate. She would go about halfway into the crate and then decide she didn't want it that bad, and come back out. I praise her when she goes in there on her own, which is getting to be more frequent.

I've been trying to have her sleep in her crate at night, but she keeps getting up between 3-4 am. So I'll take her outside to go potty, but when she comes back in, she decides it's play time. I try to put her back in her crate, but she just barks and barks and since I live in an apartment and don't want to wake everyone up, I just bring her to my bed. Well this morning she did it again, but instead of laying down, she still wanted to play! And last night she figured out how to jump off my bed, so I had to take her back to her crate and sit there until she quieted down. Puppy antics..

She's definitely improving, but I'm ready to get to the point where she'll go in there on her own and not cry when I leave. Sorry, I know I'm complaining a lot. I really do love her to pieces! I'm just sleep deprived... and I have RA so I get fatigued really easily. Oh, and since I got her and started taking her on walks around the apartment complex, I walk around in the grass a lot. Well, it's made my allergies go aboslutely nuts! Well, and allergens in Houston are bad anyways. But I have a major sinus headache and getting woken up at 3:30 and then not being able to go back to sleep really sucked. I'm so glad today is a half day at work! First world problems, huh?

Have you tried covering the crate ? Might help her settle down some...and muffle the sounds if she doen't.

Yes, I made her a crate cover that covers the top and 3 sides (not the door). Then I put a blanket over the door.

Deska was like this. I never could crate train him and he had bad seperation anxiety. I did find was he was much happier in the lounge room when he was alone. So I set up a puppy pen (with plastic on the bottom as I have carpet) and he was much better. Gave him some extra room where I could throw in more activities for him while I was out.

He does use a crate now when we go to comps or away but I ended up getting a large one that he shares with Tully - he just doesn't do well alone.

We didn't give the crate option enough time for Megan to really get used to it, however I don't think she would have EVER liked it. Instead like Caro, we used an x-pen for her to sleep in as a puppy or until she was trained and trustworthy. Our 6 month old puppy Toby only sleeps in the crate at night, and has since his first night here at 8 weeks. During the day or when I just want a break, he goes in the x-pen!

Now... Megan has total control and reign over the house :o
