Puppy Shots

Thank you guys so much for all the wonderful input! I feel like I can take her places as long as she is not around other pets and their poo until 16 weeks unless she is in a class where all the pups have had vacs. I know that there is a very important time where I will need to do alot of socialization with many people and situations like wheelchairs and such just so she is comfortable with those things. I am so excited about getting her I can hardly stand it!!! lol It will be a wonderful addition to the family!!! I do plan on having her in obedience and hopefully in some agility stuff when the time is right. She will be my little girl and will know that she is very much loved!!!!

And I am sure you have seen them discussed here but Indiana seems to have a decent to above average level of puppy mills. A puppy mill does not guarantee your pup has health/personality issues but in my opinion it will greatly increase the chances. Good luck and hopefully spring will bring some puppy pictures :biggrin2:

I have found a breeder that is listed with AKC and is in Michigan. I will be able to get my little girl hopefully by mid February!! I am so excited! She will be close to 4 1/2 months old when I will be able to bring her home due to the time frame of when I get my tax refund back - by then she should have most of her shots except the very last ones for the year. That would be correct ....right??

thanks,

She should be done with distemper/parvo for the year and depending on state law may have already had her rabies too. Alot of people then recommend boosters 1 yr from the last puppy booster and then every 3 yrs for distemper/parvo and rabies or titers.

Thank you Dr. Shelli! I am so excited about getting her I am about to bust!!! Tax time cannot get here quick enough for me!!!! I will be getting her shot record so I will know where she is on them and can go from there. I am not familiar with the different state laws and timelines for the shots. I haven't had a puppy since I had my precious Chico and he was 6 months old when I got him!

I am so excited!!! I have less than two weeks before I get my little girl!!! I have talked with the breeder and it is all arranged that I will be picking up Dutchess on Saturday February 12th. This whole thing is awesome!!! The dates all have a connection to a very special day! Her birthdate is October 4th which is the one year date for the passing of my precioua chico and the day I am to pick her up is my dad's birthdate! He has been gone for 10 years now. I have seen pictures of her and she is exactly what I have wanted in the fact that she is a tri color and that she has the markings that I have wanted for her!!! So, the countdown begins........

I have a 11 week old sheltie puppy and he just had his second shot. He got his first shot at his breeders home and she shows her shelties. She said it is safe to be around other dogs and puppies as long as they have had at least the first shot. I am taking him to Kindergarten 101 puppy classes and to be a part of the class the owner must prove what shot(s) the puppy has had. The class is for puppies that are 8 to 16 weeks old. At 4 months old they start going to Obedience 101 class. After they have that first shot socialize, socialize, socialize. Just something to think about. Oh, also the trainer for the puppy class is also a breeder and I have one of her pups. She feels the earlier they are socialized the better but only if they have had at least that first shot and the other dog(s) have their shots. Hope this helps some.

thanks for the input. I was thinking that I would like to take her to our choir rehearsals and other outings at my church and that just solidifies it for me. there is only one fur baby that comes to the choir rehearsals and I know that his shots are up to date. She will give him someone to "talk" to. lol

Char........Dutchess's Mom in waiting

Char have you posted a pic of Duchess? I may of missed but I just noticed she is a tri. I have two tri's, I love them. I bet by now you are so excited puppy day is only days away.
I started taking Zak out to like Lowes and carried him when he was smaller to get him socialized and to the library. This was after his second set of shots and I let him on the ground after the last set.

I have not posted any pics of my Dutchess and quite honestly, I am not sure how I go about doing that. I would love to post some and will have more once I pick you up Saturday!!! Yes!!! Now I can say that I will be picking her up day after tomorrow!!!! Yipeeeeeee!!!!
How do I go about posting pics of her on here????
