Thanks for the advice. I found a great deal on a medium sized pop-up crate at walmart ($17.99). This is a bit larger than what I think I need for a puppy, but now i've got something that'll probably last a while longer. It's not super heavy duty, but can't beat it for the price.

What do you mean by "pop up crate"? I've heard a couple of people refer to this term lately....if you mean soft-sided, then 17.99 is one heck of a deal!

I'd say you get what you pay for with this one though. The nylon's not as thick as some of the more expensive crates you can find on amazon.com or in petsmart. And there is no liner on the bottom to protect your car from accidents.
On the upside it's a good price, and has straps to put a seat belt through.

I think I know the one they are talking about. They are soft sided, but not made of a durable material, like the soft sided crates you are probably familiar with. They are more of a light nylon kind of material, and they fold similiar to those play tents for children. They can of have a bendy spine in them that lets them fold up into a bag. Is this what you were talking about Jerros?

I got it to start playing "crate games" with the dogs in the house this winter. I have a much more "durable" It's A Breeze Too soft sided crate (with zipper) that I take for Snap when I travel and want to take it into a hotel.

That's exactly what I was thinking of. They are much lighter than the soft sided crates. So light...that my mom's setter has learned how to "travel" in her crate by walking on it sideways and getting it to move. So funny.

No....Bailey would probably learn how to roll it as well. I can show you ours this weekend, but it is probably too flimsy for her. Seriously....it stinks when you put your dog in it in one place and you come back and your dog and crate are gone

I had a similar one that I got at Target. It worked get for Ember and Justice. 3 yrs using it for training class it survived. Then 2 weeks ago, I had Diva in it while I was running Ember in agility class. When I finshed my run , the whole class was giggling. Seems Diva really wanted to get out on run with me and she swirled the crate all around and turned it over several time and in landed on end with her standing on the door as she bit/scrathed a hole in the bottom. When I rounded the desk barrier where the crate was here was Diva standing on the door of the upturned kennel with her snort shoved though the hole she created.
Mine you this was about 30 secs max.
