they look good. it will choke the dog enough to get attention but won't hurt them. sounds good to me..

Ummmm you are never and I repete never supposed to choke a dog  with the collar the whole point of the collar which is a TRAINING collar, I only use word choker collar because some people dont know what you mean when you say training collar, is to give a quick pop to get the dogs attention. you never choke them!!! I think you should seriously rethink how you train your dog and maybe consider a new home.

I really hope that this was a misunderstanding and you really dont intend on choking your dog.

Even with regular colar, you end up choking your dog little bit anyway, if your dog pulls on it uncontrollably. YOu have to remember that this is a animal. I think prong collar is worse than choke chains and show people use the choke chains all the time and there is nothing wrong.

"if your dog pulls on it uncontrollably", you're using the collar the wrong way.

"Choke" collars don't choke. You use them to give a mild "tug and release". The "tug and release" is what gets the dog's attention - constant pulling/choking (often accompanied by the dog's eyes and facial veins bugging out) does absolutely nothing for you or the dog.

I would strongly encourage you to talk to a good dog trainer who has experience with Shelties about how to use these tools properly with your dog.

as I have said I see no problem with choke chains if used properly, but I have never had a dog choke itself even with a regular collar, and I have had many dogs ranging from a wolf hybrid to border collies to the guide dogs I have trained which were mostly dobermans. Not to mention the 4h dogs I have helped with. When i had problems with dogs pulling I have used treats in the case of the shelties to halti's and prong for the larger dogs (prongs on the guide dogs because the blind persons life is on the line)

and when us show people use the choke chains the dogs are trotting nicley with us not being choked along!

Not choke but i had occasions where my sheltie ran at the other dog so hard, at the end of the flex leash, she pulled really hard, almost with a whiplash effect. then she would kind go Kachi kachi cause her throat hurt. That is about it. I have never seen a sheltie get injured from this ever.
I want to prevent the dog from running at the other dog to begin with but i have not been able to do this without Prong colar or breaking the dog's spirit....:confused2:

I'm counting to 10....before I explode here. Now counting to 20....still holding my breath.,

Oh here goes. FedAce, there has not been a single thread since you joined that you did not try to invite controversy and continuously try to feed it.

Ann/Kelly, I apologize for speaking out, but I can't help it. I may be offside with Forum rules and should probably PM Fedace personally on this, but I respectfully ask FedAce to refrain from this continual attempt to whip up debate.

We are all for healthy debate and do it often, but your pokes seem to be insiduous to me. Everyone here is trying to polite and helpful, but you keep trying to bring it back to some ugly topic.

If I'm wrong, then I'll shut up.

^^Well, sorry that you feel that way but i have a stubborn dog and i have no choice. the regular colar is just Not working. I do have to admit that with choke colar, i have to be careful about my dog running toward the another dog and pulling on the chain as hard as she can. This does seem to hurt. Otherwise, it is fine..

Your not wrong, and I totally agree. There even may be some that did not want to post publically.
It just seems to be one thing after another with the posts or threads that are started by FedAce.

I'm a newbie here, but been here long enough,to come to the conclusion..that one..either you have no clue whatsoever about your dog,two.. maybe you should'nt have this dog,and consider rehoming it. As I think that was mentioned somewhere ealiar.

My apologies to Anne & Kelly as well. This forum is a forum for all of to share, and a learning base for all of us.

Dear Friend,

Time, Patience and Consistency.

We value these character traits in ourselves, our children and our dogs and we expected them to reflect our values back to us. Our lives, children and dogs DO reflect these characteristics.

We value this forum for the support it gave us during a terrible time when our dear Cleveland died so suddenly, and we have decided to give "our time" back to this forum by giving what little knowledge we have to others and if nothing more, we can empathize with those that have lost a pet.

We will consistantly be here every day, reading, laughing, crying, supporting and responding to our friends here. We will consistantly pay our dues to help Kelly keep this wonderful virtual exchange of knowledge going so that it is a free forum for those who have need.

And we will grant patience for those who need to be told many times they are headed down a slippery slope.

Dear Friend, do right by your friend that lives with you. If you are unable to grant these character traits and treat your pet humanely, we are willing to come to your residence, wherever it may be, and bring this friend home to live with us.

Dear Forum, this is "our" final word on this subject. We have all given it plenty of time, plenty of patience and have consistantly responded to the question presented. Shall we all retire and get back to the exchange of information and pleasant topics?

Peace be with you.

Sincerely,

Ron and Jan Tetrault
