Question on sheltie traits

OH yes the going to poop walk. Amber Lee has that special I'm going to poop walk and it is not graceful. It is determined and you have about 5 seconds to grab her and get her out the door.

I wish she would give a going to pee sign. The only sign she gives is a squat and pee.
 
My last Sheltie, Jack, was a prancer. I remember the first time I noticed it. We were in our 1st obedience class, he was about 3 months old and the teacher used him as an example for teaching "heel". He couldn't have been a better example.
I think most Shelties are good at looking you in the eye. It's one of the qualities I like most about them. They are so smart and very interested in what you say even when they can't understand the words.
 
Beckon Struts His Stuff

When Beckon enters the Rally ring, he performs "The Testosterone Tango" to show everyone what a handsome, talented dude he is! :lol:
 
My boy, Buddy, really likes to strut his stuff, too. The other day when my friend was over, she said "Your dog is really beautiful, and he sure knows it, doesn't he!" Most of my shelties, have been pretty vain. Well, people love to come over and look at them and say how pretty they are, so I guess they learn it.

:lol: this is great. Lucky walks normal. Lil' Lady, she hops up at times like she has springs on all four paws. When we take her to the park, she thinks she is all show, well just ask her. People even laugh at her thinking its cute the way she sways her butt. Look at me, with that nose up and the back swaying. Glad I have one normal sheltie, Lucky!

Its funny how they have their own ways.
 
Ginny prances in the same way. If I tell her she's a good girl while she's doing that, she'll lift her feet even higher, like a little show pony. So cute. :smile2:
 
Hate to rain on everyone's parade, but....

Sheltie Talk says the prancing gait is WRONG.

That said, I love it when Bela does it. It looks so elegant and graceful. My Neechee always had that "snap to it" gait when he was treeing squirrels. Just. Beautiful.

Mine seem to turn it on and off. Neechee would practically dance into the obedience ring (that is, on the days when I'd brought the "right" dog). He was so tiny that he got a lot of comment when he was doing his flashy prance. You couldn't help but smile.

I've found my Shelties to be enormously talented communicators. They'll let you know what they want with their eyes. And don't be so sure your Sheltie doesn't understand what you say. I spend most of my time alone with my dogs, and I talk to them constantly (yes, I am a sad, sad, woman). They pick up not words, BUT COMPLETE PHRASES with ease.
 
Yes Jaynie you are correct prancing is NOT what we want!:lol: We want smooth effortless single tracking movement!!!!! Prancing a big no no :wink2:
 
It would be great if one of us could finally catch this on video.....its such a special gait.....i keep missing it myself.
