Question regarding Abby....

I've never noticed any hotspots on my dogs before. Is there any obvious pain? Stiffness or relunctance to move? Is she eating normally? Pooping? Any other symptoms?

As others said, and one of my vets confirmed to me years ago, Sheltie's have an enormous pain threshold.

One other thought comes to mind - localized skin allergy?

Will you please part your dogs hair away from their spine and feel the temperature between the shoulder blades and down to the middle of their back and let me know whether it is warm, hot or you just notice nothing. I need as much feed back as I can get as this will help to steer me in the right direction once again for Abby. Perhaps a back/spine MRI?

My understanding of hot spots is that they are very intense and often show redness and soreness -- even oozing. Annie Laurie has the same back warmth as you describe, and it's perfectly normal for her. Annie is nine, and is also not "high energy." I think Abby is most likely just fine, just like Annie Laurie. :yes:
 
Just got home. Felt Kyara and the upper part of her back, towards the shoulder blades was warmer than the rest of the back and the sides. Not as warm as her belly though (I do think she had been lying on it for a couple of hours). She is in perfect shape, very high energy little gal.

Obvious pain is to me when she gets up from lying down she arches her back like a cat.....I have been told unless they do it all the time(which she does not) it is pain related. Heat to me is inflammation/pain related. She twitches in the areas when i touch her, that to me is obvious discomfort.
Stiffness - all the above
Eating - Like a shark
Pooping - normal

All of this comes and goes it is nothing new or ear related. She has had these issues for almost 2 years now.
 
Just felt my Danny Boy and he's not hot in that area. But his skin twitches when touched because of his itchy allergies. His head gets real hot sometimes though and I've wondered if that is normal. We'll probably take him to the vet too because of his flare up. I would go with your gut feeling and take her to the vet. Hope all will be well.
 
so we just got back from a new chiropractor and she did adjust her hip area. Did not find anything needing adjustment in her upper back but did feel the heat and said it was unusual. She also did accupuncture and witnessed twitching on all the needles going in. Her comment was " I have never seen a dog with so much discomfort". "She should not twitch on ALL the needles, maybe 1 or 2"
We will go back again next week. Oh, the visit was $213. I work for Abby now.
 
Hopefully Abby feels better after this visit.

I do know that Snap had a single instance when he nearly jumped off the table reacting to a needle being inserted. However, he usually was sleepy at the end of the acupuncture session, from endorphin release. I also got such a chuckle out of seeing him with a needle in the forehead that gave him that "unicorn" look.

Abby does not get relaxed.....a couple yawns but still very concerned trying to look back to see what is going on (or in). When I had acupuncture I asked for the needle in the head too, but did not get it!

Abby has itchy allergies too, but that's another chapter. She does not seem to twitch from the itch, only when she seems uncomfortable or off..

I checked...my dogs don't feel warm in any one spot (of course our house is freezing! Had to turn the heat on).

Your last post makes it sound like there is definitely something wrong.
