Ramps

Caro's ramp link -- made by the same company as the stairs. The only thing I would say is that carpet WILL NOT be enough. It is velcroe'd on and probably will slip. It is also not THE best traction though it is adequate on the steps. Not sure how well it would be on a ramp. It's basically short-loop indoor/outdoor carpeting.

Having said that, their bases are really solid and I have never had a side-to-side problem with the steps. They are hollow underneath but have a bracing bar. Not sure if it is THAT steep or the pic makes it look that way. Do a rise/run measurement and figure the angle. I like the bases from this company.

I would replace the carpet with something glued in and actually better traction or glue the carpet in and add something to make it bumpier like maybe small rubber strips crossways screwed in at the edges or such just to give additional traction.

Oh and as a ramp, if you have cats, that WILL become a cat scratcher. Mine do it from time to time to the ones on the steps.

Shower mat modification would do it, the bumpiest one you could find, cut to fit and glued in the cut-out notch -- or add crossways strips like on an agility A frame.

I had not thought of this, but I can see them really getting a good stretch and scratch on the carpet one especially! Mine never bothered furniture until we got a new living room set... this stuff must just literally be the cat's *** because they love to scratch it. :mad:
 
Lol - I blame you. I ordered that scalloped ramp from Amazon so I'll tell you what it's like when it arrives. Deska jumps on and off the bed in the morning and with his elbows being so bad it makes me cringe - I figured that ramp would serve the dual purpose of preventing him jumping off and let Tully climb up. Hope it works, returns are too expensive.
 
So, I ordered the one that has the two parts with the platform. I think that will work best in the camper with being able to put it in different configurations and folding it in to a rectangle to stow away when we aren't using it.

I do still like that scalloped one too and if he takes to the ramp like I hope he does, I might consider that one for in the house by the bed. He hops on the couch by himself but can just hop up there, the bed he needs a running start because it's a bit higher. I suppose I could just put it in the bedroom at night, he snooze on the couch unless I'm in bed then I don't have to worry about any hopping down.
 
Our two piece ramp came in today and so far seems to be Watson approved.

At first he kind of inch wormed his way up the first part of it... following treats up it set up like Hansel and Gretel through the forest.

Then he decided all was safe, and he would walk up. Back down was also a breeze. I have it set out straight right now because I think that's how I'll use it in the camper. Sometimes he hops off at the platform, but that's only about a foot off the ground so I'm ok with that small amount of acrobatics.

He was just sitting by me on the couch, and he used it all on his own to walk down with no treats... except for the few crumbs left over from our dehydrated fish treats.

It is really firm, sturdy foam with a fabric cover on the sides. There are velcro strips where you can put the two pieces together. I think since the camper floor is slippery, I will put something on the bottom of it to make it non skid... maybe try affixing a bathmat somehow. The walking surface is rubberized so shouldn't prove to be too slippery unless he's got his grinch feet on.

So far, I am pleased.
 
Excellent! I am glad that one it Watson approved. Maybe I will replace the stairs with that. Melli really hates the stairs.
