Randy has cancer

So so very sorry to hear this news!! I echo and convey what all the others have said and send sweet Sheltie hugs your way

(((hugs)))

I'm so sorry to hear this

I understand what you are going through. My 6 year old chihuahua was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. The lump was located on her leg. Because of the size and location, they couldn't remove it cleanly. We took her to a veterinary oncologist. Since it didn't spread to her lymph nodes and she is young, we decided to do chemotherapy and steroids. She handled the chemo very well. Only one day she had loose stool, a fever and loose of appetite. Other than that she had no reactions to the treatments.

Your best option is to go to an oncologist and hopefully they can do another surgery and cleanly remove all of the tumor, so it can not spread.

I hope Randy makes a full recovery.

I am so very sorry to hear of Randy's diagnosis. Hopefully the vets can give you all possible options. It's good to hear that he's eating normally and feeling his usual happy self - when one of our dogs was diagnosed with cancer, it helped me to keep in mind that she was living in the immediacy of each moment, not worrying about her prognosis (as I was). If Randy's feeling good, that's wonderful!

Randy will be going to an Internal Med Specialist next Friday to be checked for mets, specifically Myeloma. If that goes well he will probably have more fo the lesion removed and head to the oncologist. I talked to our vet this morning and she is pulling together all she can from path report, other vets, etc. She has already talked to a few vets. The ACVIM vet said the myeloma was not a likely diagnosis, but we needed to check him out really well for it because there is some connection btw myeloma and what Randy has. I'll talk to my vet again tomorrow and report back. We feel the love from our sheltie brothers and sisters.

Please look after them both

My thoughts and hopes for a happy outcome are with you both.
Good luck

I'm so sorry for the pain you and Randy are going through! I'm praying that the prognosis and treatment is good.

How on earth did you discover this? I mean, if he was eating normal, etc....was it at a yearly checkup? I don't habitually inspect my dog's tongues....perhaps I should.
